We are looking for a highly dedicated nurse to join our Liaison Psychiatry Service at St George's Hospital in Tooting. Our team provides a comprehensive specialist service to patients in the general hospital setting including A and E. The team has been rated as an excellent service by the Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network.

You will be expected to work a shift system across a 24hr period seven days a week, primarily assessing patients that present with mental health problems, self-harm or as a psychiatric crisis.

Main duties of the job

We have a very strong commitment to education, research and staff development. As well as promoting your own professional development, we will expect you to participate in the teaching and training of nurses and other health professionals.

This is a challenging but rewarding role, offering an exciting opportunity to nurses who have strong assessment and therapeutic skills. You will need the ability to work autonomously whilst still contributing to the team as a whole. Previous experience of working in Liaison Psychiatry is desirable, although not essential. We offer excellent staff support through clinical supervision and teamwork.

Job responsibilities

The Deputy Nursing Team Leader/Clinical Charge Nurse/CommunityPsychiatric Nurse/Practice Development Nurse role is suitable forRegistered Nurses who have successfully completed preceptorship and have registered as an approved NMC mentor.

The post holder will deliver, or advise on the delivery of, high quality safenursing care, ensuring consistently high standards of practice and clinicalexcellence which comply with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of professional conduct.

As a Deputy Nursing Team Leader/Clinical Charge Nurse/CommunityPsychiatric Nurse/Practice Development Nurse you will promote anddevelop clinical leadership and clinical practice and be a positive role model to junior members of the team through the practice of evidence-based care. You will be expected to support professional development through clinical appraisal and supervision and contribute to the ongoing educational programme for staff, fostering a positive learning environment. Your professional and personal development will include further postgraduate study and you will be encouraged and supported by your line manager to undertake Masters programmes.

As a senior nurse working within the South London Mental Health andCommunity Partnership you are required to encourage and fostercollaborative and cross organisational working.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Adult Nurse and/or Registered Mental Health Nurse and/or Registered Learning Disabilities Nurse.
  • Mentorship qualification.


Desirable

  • Master's degree.


Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of research-based/reflective practice, e.g. understanding and ability to use supervision to reflect on skills, attitude and knowledge and develop these by using evidence based practice.
  • Significant relevant clinical experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Experience as a preceptor / mentor.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and audit.
  • Knowledge of relevant Professional and Clinical legislation.
  • Understanding of Care Co-ordination under CPA.


Desirable

  • Experience of Interagency working.
  • Experience of managing a caseload.
  • Experience of working in the community.
  • Experience of supporting practice development in clinical areas.
  • Awareness/knowledge of the issues surrounding social inclusion for mental health service users.
  • Lived experience of mental health.
