Person Specification

Knowledge and Skill

Essential

  • Advanced specialist knowledge of, and clinical skill in, the management of upper limb orthopaedic conditions, especially relating to hands and their OT application guided by standards and protocols laid down by the regional hand unit at the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary (DRI), British Association of Hand Therapists (BAHT)
  • Advanced diagnostic and assessment skills required to respond to patients with an acute or chronic musculoskeletal problem
  • Risk factors assessment & report writing
  • Clinical leadership skills / multi-professional teamwork
  • Clinical Governance - setting standards, evidence based practice & CPD / supervision
  • Effective: Teaching skills, Communication skills, Presentation skills
  • Awareness of Professional issues relating to this clinical areas
  • Awareness of local, regional and national healthcare priorities and NHS targets
  • Standard keyboard and IT skills


Qualifications

Essential

  • Graduate Diploma or Degree BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy
  • HPC State registration
  • Membership of the College of Occupational Therapists
  • Membership of BAHT
  • Post graduate accredited orthopaedic course work


Further Training

Essential

  • Evidence of specialist postgraduate courses relevant to the occupational therapy treatment of Hands and upper limb orthopaedic conditions
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Leadership and Teaching Training
  • Clinical educators course for OT students
  • Attendance at network conferences and events


Experience

Essential

  • experience in upper limb orthopaedic outpatients with a high percentage of their caseload being specialist hands
  • Experience of being involved in service development whilst in orthopaedic outpatients
  • Audit experience
  • Teaching experience
  • Multi Agency working liaison & relationship building
  • Multi-professional service development
  • Audit and research process
