My name's Keir Brisbane and I am the new Service Manager for the Youth Service.

In our service we support young people (aged 14-25 years) who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties. We have enthusiastic and skilled staff who provide the support that is needed - and they are motivated to make a real difference to young people, their families and carers.

As a service we are striving to meet the challenges that we are facing, and to create a working environment that is sustainable, effective for our young people, and fulfilling for our staff.

We are looking to recruit an inspired and confident Clinical Psychologist to provide quality containment, supervision and leadership to our clinical staff, and to contribute to the direction of the service. You will be supervised by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist with overall responsibility for the Youth service. You will have the opportunity to hold a small caseload delivering skilled interventions to young people, and developing your skill set through training tailored to your interests.

We are also offering to train the successful candidate in DBT so that they can contribute to our wider DBT offer*. This will be a chance for the right person to build on their skills and portfolio, and to lead on the DBT provision for the Youth Service offering leadership, oversight and direction to this crucial intervention.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Principal Clinical Psychologists within our Youth Service is to provide senior clinical leadership within the specified team, with an expectation that a proportion of time is spent involved in direct client work, alongside a significant focus upon leadership activities:
  • Providing consultation to indirectly support the delivery of treatment by others.
  • Providing clinical supervision to practitioners within the team.
  • Progressing staff development in the team, informing and being informed by wider strategy.
  • Collaborative and shared leadership of the team with the Community Team Manager and Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • Establishing and leading on a psychologically safe and informed environment for teams and staff through positive leadership values and behaviours, including integrity, respect, compassion and curiosity.
  • Providing a key role in team containment, working with professional systems, having difficult conversations, managing team emotions, and thinking clinically and systemically simultaneously.
  • Running, contributing to or supporting service development projects in liaison with the Consultant Psychologist or other staff from the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Providing and contributing significantly to the psychological practice of the team with a focus on quality, efficacy and increasing improvement.
  • Working alongside the Consultant Clinical Psychologists for CFYP services across Suffolk and Norfolk in developing clinical pathway intervention packages.

Diane Hull - NSNHSFT

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of specialist mental health services for the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, serving a population of 1.6 million people. We are a large organisation covering a wide geographical area divided into ‘Care Groups'. There are also Care Groups supporting children, family and young people’s services, and specialist services, including Forensic mental health services.

Each Care Group has its own Leadership team, with the aim of supporting clinically led decision making locally, to support the needs of people accessing services.

We have inpatient facilities across both counties with smaller bases in rural locations. Many of the Trust’s services are offered in the community, enabling people accessing services to receive the support they need in an environment familiar to them.

At NSFT we believe in recovery and wellbeing, and understand the importance of good physical health, maintaining relationships and achieving a balance between treatments and continuing an active life.

The people in our care, families and carers are at the centre of all aspects of all we do and are vital in helping shape and support our service strategy. Our strategy supports and enables people with mental health problems to live a fulfilling life and make their personal recovery journey.

Norfolk and Suffolk, in the East of England are some of the safest places to live in the UK, with low crime rates making it a community to be proud of. Housing prices are frequently cited as a reason to move here, as you get an incredible amount for your money compared with other major UK cities.

Norwich in Norfolk has something for everyone. It has retained a strong local identity and, with that, a sense of community. Locals say hello to each other, baristas remember our coffee orders and you’ll be among the first to know about interesting local projects.  This strong sense of community, along with excellent shopping, eating out, affordable house prices and excellent schooling is why Norwich has been ranked by the Guardian as the UK’s best city to work in.

Ipswich in Suffolk is steeped in history, yet full of life. One of Norfolk’s most famous stretches of beaches, Great Yarmouth attracts around six million tourists each year! Situated at the mouth of the River Yare, this old port town is home to beautiful golden sandy beaches and neighbouring towns and villages with scenic views and homely charm.

Full to the brim of history and with a vibrant town centre, King’s Lynn is the ideal destination to enjoy the superb mix of history, shopping and entertainment on offer!  A small, historic market town, King's Lynn is the perfect place to live and work, with fantastic train links and short drives to fantastic beaches.

Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk is a unique and dazzling historic gem. An important market town with a richly fascinating heritage, the striking combination of medieval architecture, elegant Georgian squares and glorious cathedral and abbey gardens provide a distinctive visual charm. With prestigious shopping, an award-winning market, plus variety of attractions and places to stay, Bury St Edmunds is under two hours from London and convenient for Cambridge.
