This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career by taking on the role of Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse on our fast paced SurgicalAssessment Ward. You will support the Ward Sister in the delivery of a patient-centered, clinically effective and dynamic service from the patient'sadmission assessment to discharge.

The Surgical Assessment Ward consists of an assessment unit and ward area with an assessment room and short stay surgical inpatient beds.This is an exciting time to join as the surgical assessment unit is currently undergoing a refurbishment.

The unit is part of the same day emergency care (SDEC) programme where we deliver rapid assessment of patients including diagnostic andtreatment without being admitted to a ward. They can then go home on the same day if it is clinically safe to do so

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an individual who will support the ward sister in leading and developing the experienced nursing team in this department andpromote multi-disciplinary working.

You will provide inspirational leadership to the department, be positively welcoming, effective and act as a credible role model. You will have well-developed communication, change management and organisational skills, with a positive attitude andshare in our vision and commitment to continuously develop and improve.

You should be caring, compassionate, forward thinking, well organizedand have a positive attitude towards flexibility and change.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • RGN / 1st Level registration
  • Teaching / mentorship qualification e.g. ENB 998 or equivalent


Desirable

  • Evidence of continuing education
  • Advanced Life Support provider / other course of similar calibre


Experience

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with proven experience at Band 6 in the acute setting
  • Uses evidence based practice to support care delivery
  • Experience of relevant specialities


Desirable

  • Leadership course
  • Experience of relevant specialities


Personal Skills

Essential

  • Leadership skills with evidence of staff motivation and team building
  • Ability to be adaptive and respond well in times of stress
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Experience with managing a budget

  • Knowledge of current Trust wide and Department of Health initiatives
