This post spans both Undergraduate and Postgraduate delivery of simulation-based education and interprofessional learning in order to facilitate change within the organisation and improve patient safety.

The senior simulation facilitator of the simulation centre will support the Clinical Simulation Lead and Multiprofessional Simulation Lead to develop and deliver the strategic plan for the simulation centre. The postholder will facilitate the delivery of simulation-based education (SBE) to both undergraduate and postgraduate staff in a wide range of professions and support the Multiprofessional simulation lead to identify opportunities to engage staff with interprofessional learning and education. As sessions are run in the simulation centre and in the in situ clinical environment at the same time, there is a requirement to provide leadership ensuring delivery of high quality SBE in the relevant environment.

Main duties of the job

Provides sound professional judgement and knowledge to guide and support undergraduate and postgraduate participants, contributing to the development and advancement of specialist practice.

Adopts a flexible approach to working patterns and be willing to work occasionally outside normal hours as required dependent on service demands.

Independently delivers a range of educational training programmes, in a variety of settings, to a multi-disciplinary audience.

Responsible for own personal and professional development ensuring compliance with mandatory training.

Attends and contributes to appropriate internal and external meetings when requested including sim academy, departmental and Clinical Academy meetings.

Is able to manage own time to prioritise workload. Can balance demands of the role to ensure the smooth delivery of the service.

Maintains and develops an environment that supports, encourages and enables a safe and confidential learning environment for all participants.

Provides a high degree of knowledge and clinical leadership to ensure a high standard of patient centred care and evidence-based knowledge.

Maintains and updates knowledge and expertise in current developments and future trends in relation to undergraduate education.

Job responsibilities

SIMULATION (see Job description for further details)

Works with the Multiprofessional and Clinical Simulation Leads to assist in, and lead on delivering high-fidelity simulation-based education training to undergraduate and postgraduate participants.

Support the Multiprofessional and clinical simulation leads in the formulation of a strategic plan to improve patient safety through SBE and human factors teaching.

In conjunction with the Simulation Leads, and where appropriate independently, implements simulation curricula and educational materials appropriate for all levels and types of training and development.

Assists and where appropriate leads on delivering all aspects of simulation-based education, the setting-up, and delivery of scenario and facilitates debriefing.

Contributes to the development and advancement in the understanding of human factors and non-technical skills and their impact on patient safety through simulation training and debriefing.

Delivers with technical proficiency all aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, trouble shooting and repair of all simulation equipment. This includes the management of all audio visual equipment used in the Simulation Centre.

Provides the Simulation Lead and Senior Trust Management Team with reports and data as required. Independently identifies areas for improvement collects data/feedback and suggests recommendations.

To lead on ensuring ASPiH standards are continually adhered to following accreditation so as to maintain that status.

To contribute as faculty in delivering external SBE and human factors-based courses.

Engages with CPD opportunities and personal development plans to ensure the post holder has the ability to deliver SBE to ASPiH standards.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Education

Essential

  • Registered Healthcare Practitioner/Nurse (NMC/HCPC)
  • Degree in relevant area or relevant clinical experience.
  • Resuscitation Council UK ALS Provider


Desirable

  • Resuscitation Council UK ALS/EPALS/APALS instructor
  • Appropriate teaching or training qualification


Knowledge and Training

Essential

  • Awareness of low, medium and high fidelity simulation systems
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Ability and willingness to undergo further training appropriate to the role
  • Comprehensive IT skills


Desirable

  • Aware/understanding of current clinical research
  • In-depth, specialist knowledge of a range of training practices and theories
  • Knowledge and experience of debriefing and Non- Technical skills


Experience

Essential

  • Recent post registration (3 years minimum post registration) experience in an acute care setting
  • Recent experience of delivering practical clinical training to a wide range of staff in a range of settings


Desirable

  • Experience of programming and controlling scenarios on Laerdal and Gaumard simulators
  • Experience of working in a similar role
