Main duties of the job

The MSc and internal training program will enable the development of the skills and competencies required while performing operative procedures under the direction of Consultant Surgeons. The training program will also develop the skills required to assist in all aspects of pre, peri and post-operative care of the patient. We will support you to achieve your potential by offering you a programme of development from experienced Theatre staff and dedicated SCP Educators.

Successful candidates will act within the SCP professional scope of practice and be able to work in partnership with other professionals, supporting staff, patients, their families and carers.They will promote professional development through evidence-based learning, research practice, reflective practice, training and development opportunities.

They will act as a role model with those they work with, to enable them to develop their knowledge and practice.

Under supervision from the Consultant Surgeon, they will perform consistently as an effective and responsible team member within the limits of their own competence and accountability, ensuring the provision of a quality service.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Healthcare Professional with the NMC or HCPC
  • Degree (level 6 education)


Desirable

  • Mentoring, Teaching qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years Theatre or critical care experience
  • Proven ability to problem solving and deal with complex issues
  • Excellent communication & collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage own workload
  • Flexible approach to working hours and practices to meet the changing demands of the organisation
  • There is a requirement to undertake an on-call commitment in line with existing and future unsocial hour requirements
  • Excellent prioritisation, time management and organisational skills


Desirable

  • Evidence of experience in the specialty
  • Cardiothoracic experience
  • Evidence of leadership and management experience


Additional Criteria

Essential

  • Understanding the trust values Compassion Excellence Collaboration and ability to uphold
  • Understanding of Data Protection and Confidentiality and compliance thereof
  • Calm, methodical and ability to work under pressure and work as part of a team
  • It is a requirement for the post holder to complete a 2-years term as an SCP post MSc qualification. Failure to complete this term may result in all or partial re-payment of MSc fees back to the Trust.
