An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Infection, Prevention and Control (IP& C) Team at Bart's Health NHS Trust (BH), this post is based at The Royal London Hospital. You will be joining a supportive team who value the contributions of each team member to help deliver our overall aims and objectives in line with the Trust vision to provide every patient with the care we want for those we love the most, specifically by reducing the risks of healthcare associated infections. The team has a highly visible role working in all areas throughout the BH and comprises of IP& C nurses, IPC Doctor, Hospital Directors of IP& C, and administrative staff. We welcome and encourage innovative ideas and the team is comprised of individuals from a range of clinical backgrounds and experience which proves a great asset as we continually review our practice and interventions.

Main duties of the job

Nurse, IPC Clinical Leads and Lead IPC Doctor the post holder will be responsible for the coordination and development of quality infection prevention & control service in their allocated site (The Royal London / Mile End Hospitals), providing leadership, support and guidance to all trust staff and ensuring a patient focused service.

The post includes providing clinical and managerial leadership to the Infection Prevention & Control Senior Nursing Team. The post holder will practice at an advanced level of autonomy and clinical decision making. They will work as a highly specialised member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team, to assist in containing and reducing the incidence of infection across the Trust, through risk assessment, surveillance, audit, intervention and education. The role is a collaborative one, working with individuals and groups across professional and organisational boundaries.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post registration experience in infection prevention within an acute Trust
  • Clinical experience within acute healthcare, and ability to relate that experience to support staff in practice
  • Experience of professional leadership
  • Experience of training and facilitating staff and practice development in a variety of settings, with individuals, small and large groups
  • Implementation of HR policies / procedures
  • Evidence of regional or national working within specialist field of practice, e.g. branch or national role within Infection Prevention Society
  • Development and use of governance frameworks and structures to minimise risk and improve patient safety
  • Working with different organisations to review complex infection issues/cases


Desirable

  • Experience of publication, or conference presentations

  • Proven leadership and management skills. Able to inspire, motivate and to lead a team to achieve excellence
  • Proven ability to plan and deliver projects and services within a set time frame, anticipating problems and devising solutions

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse, on live register, with significant experience at senior level of infection prevention in practice (minimum 3 years at band 8A)
  • Specialist qualification in infection prevention and control minimum BSc level
  • Qualification / training in teaching and / or professional development
  • Evidence of ongoing personal development


Other

Essential

  • Highly professional appearance, with adherence to Trust policy - acts as a role model for others
