This role is focused on developing and maintenance the local data warehouse and reporting solution to support business intelligence for the Trust and ensuring theavailability of timely, accurate and relevant information to assist all staff in the planning and delivery of the best possible health care

The postholder will develop and improve routine processes associated with the extraction of information from the Trust's IT systems, the provision of information to the Trust and external agencies. This role has significant freedom to act on how the service is delivered and will act as the lead specialist for the Trust's reporting strategy, including consideration of web-based reporting packages and data collection tools.

The post holder will work closely with other members of the Business Intelligence and Information Services Development Team as well as Divisional Managers, other Senior Managers and Clinicians within the RUH and across the local Clinical Commissioning Groups.

Main duties of the job

Develop & maintain local data warehouse and reporting systemwith the Information Services Development team, design and maintain the local data warehouse to store data from the Patient Administration system (PAS) and other data collection routines, ensuring robust data extraction, storage and backup functionality.

Maintain up to date and comprehensive documentation for warehouse design and report specifications, to meet the agreed quality standards as set out by the Information Services Department.

Deliver specialist training to users of the performance reporting application, including the provision of advice on compliance with relevant policies and procedures.

Ensure that relevant, timely and accurate information is available to support decision-making both internally and externally to the Trust.

Create and monitor a suite of data quality reports to identify areas / users where processes are not being followed, alerting operational managers so that corrective action can be taken.

Monitor Dataset Change Notices (DSCNs), advising of impact to data collection and implementing changes within the data warehouse / reports to ensure compliance is maintained.

Identify requirements & possible system changes and work with various staff groups to ensure successful implementation of any changes in reporting definitions.

Work with IT Development and Information teams, raise awareness of and ensure the continued improvement of data quality throughout the Trust.

Technical

Essential

  • Relevant qualification (HND or higher) in Computing or Information Technology
  • Relevant experience and training in SQL Server, Visual Basic, DTS (Broadly equivalent to a Masters)
  • At least four years experience developing and implementing client / server applications
  • Good problem solving skills including resolution of issues and program faults
  • Ability to develop reports to support performance data and provide meaningful and credible information
  • Experience of training users in the use of applications.
  • Experience of health and/or social services information systems
  • At least four years knowledge of SQL Server up to version 2000 including Stored Procedures, Data Transformation Services and Query Analyser
  • At least four years knowledge of Visual Basic, including some experience of VB.NET and understanding of the .NET framework


Desirable

  • Good knowledge of the following: systems analysis, design and testing
  • Knowledge of RUH information and reporting systems (TDS/CFIS, Cerner Millennium, Business Objects).
  • Previous experience of production of DoH Reporting Requirements
  • Knowledge of ASP and / or ASP.NET. Experience of developing browser-based applications using tolls such as PHP, C#.
  • Knowledge of business intelligence reporting tools such as Power BI, SQL Server 2005
