We are looking for a Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to lead on the planning, co-ordination and delivery of occupational therapy provision across our mental health of older adults and dementia inpatient services recently rated by the CQC as outstanding in the caring domain.
This role provides the opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to maintain their clinical expertise in a hands-on role whilst in a leadership position to ensure high quality Occupational Therapy provision is provided to the people we serve.

Main duties of the job
The purpose of the role of Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist within the Mental Health of Older Adults and Dementia Inpatient Services is:
To lead on the planning, coordination and delivery of Occupational Therapy provision within the Older Adults and Dementia Inpatient and Specialist Care services as part of the Psychological Medicine and Older Adult (PMOA) Directorate.
To have an element of clinical input through group work or individual complex cases with services users within the Older Adult and Dementia inpatient pathway. Using evidence based / client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate occupationally focused interventions for adults within the acute stage of their illness.

To provide specialist advice on the assessment and intervention of servicer users occupational needs within the inpatient wards and specialist care services as clinically indicated.
To be an active member of the Senior Management Team within Mental Health of Older Adults and Dementia Inpatient Services.
Work in partnership with a range of other services to provide support and treatment to service users to facilitate the safe management of their needs.
To provide clinical and professional supervision to Occupational Therapists working on the inpatient wards and specialist care units, so as to monitor and implement professional standards of practice including input to staff appraisals and continuing professional development.
To liaise with other Occupational Therapy colleagues across older adults and dementia service provision in allocated boroughs and establish systems that promote effective communication and best access to borough-based services.
To provide clinical leadership for junior staff and students through supervision and training.
To act as a resource for the Professional Head of Therapies and other members of the PMOA Directorate and to carry out delegated duties and projects as requested.
Take responsibility for evidence-based clinical audits and service development initiatives.

- Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy
- Health Care Professionals Council Registration
- Practice Placement Educator Training

- Membership of Royal College of Occupational Therapists and/or Special Interest Group relevant to the role
- Evidence of recent or on-going post registration academic study relevant to practice
- Qualification and/or formal training in postural care and specialist seating

- Extensive post-qualification experience working as an Occupational Therapist in clinical mental health settings with older adults and people with dementia in the UK
