Specialist Speech and language TherapistAdult Learning Disabilities Band 6 AFC (This post may also beconsidered as a developing band 5-6)0.8 hrs.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist to work as part of a Community Learning Disabilities team delivering Speech and Language Therapy input to the Community Learning Disabilities Service.

Previous experience of working with Adults with Learning Disabilities is highly desirable.

To participate in the organisation, delivery and development of Speech andLanguage interventions.To carry a clinical caseload in communication and, if have relevant RCSLTcompetencies, dysphagia providing specialised Speech and LanguageTherapy to adults with a learning disability with a range of highly complexneeds in a variety of settings.

To provide and participate in specialist clinical support and supervision to other Speech and Language Therapists, assistants, students, and members of the multi-disciplinary team. (Depending on experience)

Main duties of the job

The role involves close collaborative working with multi-disciplinary colleaguesin the community setting, completing assessments, planning interventions foradults who have a learning disability, identifying and meeting training needsand providing specialist advice.

Regular formal managerial and clinical supervisions will be given. The team also operates in a very inclusive and supportive manner and actively encourages development of special interests and self-directed learning.
  • Essential Requirements include:
  • RCSLT membership and HCPC registration
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of working with people with a learning disability in the communityis highly desirable.
  • Driver with access to independent means of transport

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSC Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent Or equivalent
  • Unrestricted registration with Health Professions Council (HPC)


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal and communication skills
  • An understanding of the specific contribution of Speech and Language Therapists in Learning Disability Services
  • Ability to demonstrate team building, leadership and organisational skills
  • Demonstrates and understanding an ability to practice in a person centred, recovery focussed way


Experience

Essential

  • Experience in working in learning disability and dysphagia
  • Substantial experience and competence with clients with complex needs, communications issues and/or challenging behaviour
  • Experience on working as part of an interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary team
  • Experience or interest in working in mental health services
