Anexciting new opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Child and Family Mental Health Worker with relevant experience to join the Berkshire CAMHS Anxiety Disorders Treatment Team.

CAMHS ADTT provide specialist assessments and treatment for children and young people suffering with anxiety disorders, OCD and Tic Disorders across Berkshire. The ADTT team prides itself on our inclusive practice, particularly our work with neurodivergent families. We have a compassionate ethos within the team which permeates throughout our work, and which is remarked upon by all clinicians who work with us.

The person in this role will receive valuable support and guidance from senior clinicians in the team as they work with children and young people experiencing anxiety disorders. The goal is to offer high-quality practical and emotional support, as well as therapeutic interventions.

In this position, you will play a key role in supporting assessments, collaborating with various agencies, and helping families during their waiting period for treatment. You'll also be involved in organising support group activities and assisting with referrals to other agencies, working alongside a designated Health Care Professional to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Main duties of the job

You will provide short-term interventions,such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy-informed approaches to help manage distress and emotions, psychoeducation, and consultations with multiple agencies. By working closely with other CAMHS teams and agencies, you'll help ensure that the interventions are well-aligned with the overall care plan for each child and their family.
  • To provide therapeutic interventions (individual/group) to children, young people and parents/carers on distress tolerance and anxiety management.
  • To contribute to initial assessments of children and young people referred to the team in conjunction with other qualified members of the team.
  • Assist in running support or treatment groups for young people and /or their parents.
  • To facilitate and signpost referrals when appropriate to other agencies, in conjunction with allocated Health Care Professional.
  • Contribute to, attend and, where appropriate, multi-agency meetings including safeguarding and child protection meetings, contributing to care support plans and supporting the network of professionals in creating a joint clinical formulation of the patients' needs.to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • Degree or MSc in a subject relevant to the post (e.g. Social work, OT, Mental Health, Child Development, Psychology, Counselling, Youth work, Offending etc)
  • HNC/HND or similar in relevant subject with extensive relevant work experience or short courses to degree equivalent level


Desirable

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) training.

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Previous work directly with children, young people, families as well as working across agencies
  • Significant experience in a mental health or social care setting, working with children, young people and families.
  • Experience undertaking assessments of needs
  • Working with people in their own homes and the community
  • Significant experience of risk management while working independently with vulnerable people in high distress in community settings
  • Working with and co-ordinating multi-agencies to ensure young care is joined up and their holistic needs are identified and met.


Desirable

  • Specialist skills acquired through engagement with different groups of vulnerable children and parents (offending, substance misuse, refugees.)
  • Experience of managing groups of parents providing psychoeducation around children's mental health and/or parenting
  • Experience of working with children and young people whose needs have been identified as needing CAMHS Tier 3 or 4 interventions, including self-harming and suicidality.
  • Experience of providing consultation/guidance relating to systemic issues, attachment and delivering training to teams of professions
  • Work within an NHS CAMHS setting liaising with appropriate qualified staff co-delivering joint pieces of therapeutic interventions to patients/families


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Desirable

  • A keen attitude to learning and working in a team

  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritise own workload.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills where there are barriers to understanding.
