Main duties of the job

This role is to ensure the provision of high quality care to Oncology patients. The role is responsible for ensuring all Matrons and Advanced Clinical Practitioners are effectively managing their clinical areas and accountable for the quality of Oncology care.

This role takes the lead for the directorate in managing the overall oncology bed base, acute oncology service, chemo day unit, oncology outpatient areas and the trust lead chemotherapy nurse.

The Lead Nurse will work in partnership with the Clinical Director, General Manager and other colleagues to develop and implement a clinical, research and academic service strategy promoting multi professional research, audit and education that delivers the AHSC and AHSN vision and is in line with wider organisational strategy. They will hold a pivotal role in the directorate's quality and safety management framework alongside other service leads.

In partnership with their clinical leads, operational managers, and finance and human resources colleagues they will deliver Department plans which drive efficiency and quality initiatives across the Division.

They will support the development and delivery of the department'sbusiness plan. At Directorate level they will provide assurance of proactive management of clinical and cost improvement plans, ensuring appropriate actions are taken to mitigate or respond to identified risks.
