An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for Pharmacy Technicians to join the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust as rotational pharmacy technicians working across placements in IUC/111, 999 and the medicines packing unit. We are an inclusive and well respected team. We will support you to develop and grow your pharmacy skills both practically and strategically. We are looking for GPhC registered pharmacy technicians who are dynamic and willing to learn in a new and developing environment

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include:
    • To line manage and supervise the Assistant Technical Officers
    • To support the production, training and implementation of SOPs.
    • To undertake specialist rotational placements in the Medicines Packing Unit, Medicines Governance and Integrated Urgent Care/111 (IUC/111).
    • To maintain a high standard of clinical work and pharmaceutically check and release packed drugs packs.
    • To order, receipt, dispense and check controlled drugs.
    • To work closely with the IUC lead pharmacist, Trust Medication Safety Officer, chief pharmacy technician and production manager.
    • Travel is required to other LAS Trust sites as necessary for meetings and audit work.
    • To train and assess medicines support staff

Job responsibilities

  • Effectively supervise the Medicines Distribution & Medicines Store and ensuring that demand of medicines is met across the Trust and that medicines are kept in a secure manner.
  • To use specialist knowledge, to further develop the role and understanding of medicines management within LAS.
  • To support the development and delivery medicine management training, if required and agreed for a range of individuals including clinicians and non-clinicians.
  • Support the delivery of the corporate governance and assurance requirements and any internal/external assurance processes.
  • To supervise and undertake risk management and clinical governance activities within own area of responsibility and contribute towards the delivery of the appropriate quality standards and targets outlined in the Trusts Risk Management Strategy.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Accreditations and Education

Essential

  • Registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
  • NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent
  • Successful completion of short courses relevant to practice.
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience developing and writing Standard Operating Procedures
  • Experience supporting staff with training
  • Experience managing staff
  • Experience of undertaking research activities and dispensing clinical trial medicines
  • Experience of stock management
  • Experience of report writing
  • Previous work with or within an NHS Trust


Desirable

  • Previous experience of delivering induction and competency based training
  • Experience in financial management


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Robust knowledge of the GPhC Standards of conduct, ethics and performance
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of national guidelines and can relate to performance related issues in practice.
  • Knowledge of medicines management governance requirements within NHS Ambulance Services.
  • Ability to apply technical pharmacy knowledge and critically compare a range of options
  • Understanding of COSHH regulations and Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Good prioritisation/organisation skills
  • Highly developed accuracy skills
  • Good IT skills including data entry
  • Good Analytical skills
  • Good Communication skills
  • Good Presentation skills


Desirable

  • Knowledge of wholesale dealer activities
