We are delighted to announce that a full time Social Worker opportunity has become available within GMMH Andersen Ward Mother and Baby Unit (MBU). The MBU which is based at Laureate House, Wythenshawe Hospital is a 10 bedded inpatient unit for women experiencing acute perinatal mental health issues.

We are seeking applications from confident, enthusiastic, & experienced social workers who are passionate about working in a perinatal service.

The post holder will have either experience working within perinatal mental health and/or experience working within children and family social services.

We are looking for a Social Worker who is committed to the development and clinical leadership of the MBU.

The post holder will be registered with Social Work England

The post holder will have completed their ASYE

Main duties of the job

To work with the Mother & Baby Unit's (MBU) multi-disciplinary team providing social worker practice and support across the Unit. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of social work services ensuring the needs of individual mothers and their babies are met. They will provide social care advice to staff and take a lead role in safeguarding for the MBU.

You will work closely with other agencies and individuals to support mothers with a clear focus on recovery, social inclusion and social justice.

Although the role and responsibilities have been outlined within this job description, it is important that the post holder is flexible, innovative and had a positive attitude to change as the service develops.

The post holder will be based on the Mother and Baby Unit at Laureate House, Wythenshawe Hospital, within Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will report to and receive Professional social work supervision fromthe Perinatal Lead Social Worker.

The post-holder will be required to provide social work support, training, and mentorship to newly qualified social workers and health colleagues within the Trust.

Person Specification

Education and Experience

Essential

  • Certificate of qualification in Social Work/ Diploma or Degree in Social Work. E.g. DipSW, BA/BSc/MSc Social work
  • Current registration with Social Work England
  • An understanding of the principles, values and application underlying the Mental Health Act (1983, as amended 2007) Children Act 1989 (other relevant Children's legislation) Mental Capacity Act (2005) Human Rights Act 1998 Care Act 2014 Health and Social Care Act 2012 and other legislation as they relate to this service user group.
  • Prior experience working in a mental health or children's and families setting.
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Has experience in Child Protection Proceedings and relevant legal frameworks to be able to advise and consult


Knowledge and Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Detailed knowledge of how mental health problems impact on parent / child.
  • oCommitment to Partnership working both multi-agency and multidisciplinary.
  • oAbility to work confidently in a multidisciplinary setting, including chairing meetings.
  • oAbility to organise/co-ordinate and respond effectively to complex information.
