Are you an experienced and driven speech and language therapist who has the skills and knowledge to lead on paediatric dysphagia SLT services in a forward-thinking and dynamic team? An exciting opportunity has arisen where we are looking to recruit a qualified speech and language therapist to lead the ABUHB SLT paediatric dysphagia services. Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Speech and Language Therapy Service is based in Gwent, South Wales. You will work with babies, children and young people with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties providing high quality clinical services, leadership and strategic management.

The post holder will join an established speech and language therapy senior management team, supporting the clinical governance and service development of the speech and language therapy service.

Within ABUHB, we have a team of paediatric dysphagia trained SLTs based within the three Children's Centres across ABUHB. The post holder will be based in Serennu Children's Centre. The successful candidate will provide line management and clinical supervision to staff working within this clinical area.

We seek someone with a dynamic and considered approach, who can work collaboratively and effectively with others within both the SLT teams and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The service is committed to developing evidence based clinical pathways, implementation of Advanced Clinical Decision Making Skills and Therapy Outcome Measures. The post holder will be supported with regular clinical supervision and team meetings.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Provide leadership for strategic and professional development, clinical standards, clinical governance and policies for the Paediatric Dysphagia Speech and Language Therapy Services within ABUHB.

Lead on best practice, complex audits and research initiatives, including working with colleagues across Wales to support the development of All Wales pathways relating to Paediatric Dysphagia.

Provide expert assessment, intervention, advice and second opinions regarding highly complex cases. This includes reporting on video-fluoroscopy assessments as required.

Provide specialist clinical assessment, intervention and advice to paediatric patients and families as an in-reach service to the acute wards.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • SLT Degree or equivalent
  • Registered member of HCPC and RCSLT
  • Masters Degree or equivalent demonstrable level of knowledge and experience


Desirable

  • Nationally recognised management/ leadership training
  • Advanced clinical qualification.


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in appropriate clinical field to specialist/highly specialist level.
  • Use and interpretation of assessments for highly specialist caseload including VF.
  • Ability to manage caseload without direct supervision taking a lead in the specialist area


Desirable

  • Strategic service developments


Skills

Essential

  • Ability to plan and implement service and professional development
  • Ability to manage change of self and others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for all levels of interaction


Desirable
