Job description

Job responsibilities

• Perform, analyse and report unsupervised, all routine techniques within the lung function laboratory. To include spirometry, diffusion studies, static lung volumes using plethysmography, respiratory muscle assessment, simple exercise tests and FeNO.
• Assist in the following complex procedures: Cardiopulmonary exercise testing and bronchial challenge assessments.
• Perform unsupervised the set up, analysis and reporting on limited polysomnography.
• To ensure data quality by undertaking equipment calibration and quality control for all tests performed within the laboratory.
• Ensuring the technical quality of assessment complies with published national guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with all aspects of legal and ethical obligations.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential

• BSc Biological or Physiological sciences, Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) or equivalent
• Evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable

• Registered with AHCS (or eligible for registration).

Experience

Essential

• Ensuring the technical accuracy of the equipment and the quality of the test procedure is maintained to departmental and national standards
• Perform, analyse and report on full lung function, limited polysomnography and exercise testing

Desirable

• Worked as a qualified Band 5 for minimum of two years

Skills and abilities

Essential

• Ability to analyse and interpret respiratory and sleep study data
• Ability to use own initiative to coordinate plan and prioritise activities

Desirable

• Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.

Knowledge

Essential

• Up-to-date specialist knowledge of respiratory physiology

Desirable

• Up-to-date knowledge of interstitial lung disease follow-up
