Job Summary

The Trust's Education Teams are looking for an experienced Simulation Technician to join us. This dynamic role presents the opportunity to apply a combination of technical, creative, administrative and team working skills within education teams. The post holder will provide technical support, assisting in the delivery of a range of simulation activities. This would be an ideal opportunity for a junior technician looking to advance their skills in a dynamic simulation setting.

Main duties of the job

Job Purpose

To provide specialist advice, technical and logistical support across CRH for a range of activities, including teaching and learning, research and income generation ensuring effective delivery of services.

To work collaboratively to deliver and develop a multidisciplinary, inclusive and responsive service, using technical expertise to contribute to the development of operations, resources and services across CRH.

Maintaining and troubleshooting simulation manikin systems and audio-visual equipment for the Education Centre and for mobile simulations around the Trust.

Job responsibilities

KEY RESULT AREAS

Training and education

Be responsible for the delivery of a consistent and professional simulation service, aligned to the business plans. Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks.

Contribute to service development and innovation review and implement processes and procedures for the education area prepare and analyse management information undertake benchmarking to deliver continuous improvement.

Working collaboratively across Professional Services, to provide consistent and high-quality service provision participate in internal/external networks and communities of practice represents area in project/working groups and meetings.

Train a range of staff to use simulation equipment effectively and safely.

Clinical Practice

To deliver specialist advice and support for education technical equipment including simulated manikins. Including setting up simulation equipment and clinical consumables required for simulated scenarios and ensuring rooms for simulation training and other courses are set up with all equipment in good working order.

To order, maintain and stock supplies, materials and equipment used in training, ensuring that they are included in the Trusts asset register. Evaluates medical equipment and devices with users before purchase, acceptance testing, involved in adaptation of equipment. Work with others to promote sustainability of training resources.

To develop and deliver training to staff promote awareness of simulation and the education department write guidance/learning materials to ensure the service is understood and applied consistently across the trust e.g., demonstrate equipment and techniques to groups of staff / students.

To motivate, lead and mentor staff where required provide general guidance, coaching and support, developing their skills and knowledge: e.g. day to day supervision of other staff, placement students and visitors.

To work in partnership with key education and estates staff to ensure prevention, early intervention and timely resolution of issues provide advice based on knowledge and understanding of service area, internal policies and regulations.

To be responsible for the development and operation of administrative systems, record keeping within an agreed framework (e.g. inventories, maintenance schedules, equipment loans, asset register), administer systems of operation e.g., stock control, expenditure tracking - proactively ensure data quality and integrity across the area, - assist with the preparation and completion of audits/reviews.

To support compliance with Health and Safety procedures.

To represent functional area at a range of committees, forums and working groups.

To support the development of online resources, proactively ensuring currency and accuracy of information e.g. social media channels, designated websites, inductions and tutorials.

To support initiatives as determined by Technical Managers and lead, where appropriate, specific projects/schemes/areas of work, evaluating impact and effectiveness e.g. review current equipment base in an area and lead its refresh and update.

To maintain confidentiality and treat sensitive issues with appropriate tact and diplomacy, working in accordance with data protection legislation.

To proactively ensure data quality and integrity across the area provide local management information to support operational decision making.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oTraining to band level 5 or above equivalent or equivalent through short courses and experience
  • oLevel 2 Literacy and numeracy
  • oNVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in related subject


Desirable

  • oIntermediate Life Support certification (or willing to work towards)
  • oPatient moving and handling facilitator trained (or willing to work towards)


Experience

Essential

  • oExperience in the use of simulated patients and skills trainers, routine healthcare equipment, e.g. live and simulated defibrillators, vital sign monitoring, patient lifting devices
  • oAbility to trouble shoot technical problems that may arise with the complex technical equipment used within the education centre
  • oExperience of leading operational activities in a relevant area and acting as a point of escalation, e.g. simulated healthcare facility, demonstrating good clinical practice including BLS and hand hygiene
  • oSubstantial recent work experience in a similar technician role
  • oUse of MS office 365 including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and corporate email systems
  • oAn understanding of information governance
  • oAn understanding of Health and Safety issues at work
