Lower Limb Musculoskeletal Advanced Practice Physiotherapist(Clinical Specialist)
We have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic, dynamic & suitably qualified physiotherapist with a specialist interest in Lower limb Orthopaedics to join our Musculoskeletal (MSK) Outpatient Therapy team at University College Hospital (UCH).
Working alongside the wider surgical, medical & nursing teams, the successful candidate will have a pivotal role in leading the development & provision of services related to complex lower limb disorders within the Musculoskeletal outpatient physiotherapy service.
We are a thriving department in the centre of London that boasts fantastic development & educational opportunities. We have good links with our medical & surgical colleagues, community facilities & run a variety of well-established group-based rehabilitation classes.
The post holder will focus on the expert management of a physiotherapy clinical caseload of predominantly orthopaedic outpatients with complex Lower Limb conditions. This includes complex surgical & non-surgical patients with pre-habilitation & rehabilitation needs.
You will be working with a team of senior clinicians to help deliver, co-ordinate & evaluate the MSK Physiotherapy service with opportunities to advance & progress service development as well as being involved in research projects.
Main duties of the job
You will facilitate evidence-informed patient care, playing a key role in sharing knowledge with other staff members to support & develop physiotherapy best practice in line with local & national guidelines.
You will be required to have significant previous MSK outpatient experience at Band 7 level including Orthopaedic & Rheumatology patient management. A range of excellent clinical, communication, clinical reasoning & rehabilitative skills appropriate to the caseload are essential & you will be expected to provide an accountable, autonomous & high-quality physiotherapy service.
You should demonstrate evidence of ongoing CPD to a Masters level (M-Level) or equivalent & be able to work in a flexible manner. As an expert clinician & leader, you will be able to prove your ability to assist in the education, appraisal, training & supervision of less experienced physiotherapy staff, students & other allied health & medical colleagues. We offer support for ongoing personal development, clinical excellence & leadership skills training.
Allied to your clinical work will be managerial & administrative duties, including the operational management of the UCH lower limb rehabilitation classes.
You will be well supported in all your roles by the MSK team including Advanced Practice Physiotherapists, Consultant Physiotherapists, the senior team & Heads of Service.

Knowledge & Experience

- Good written/spoken English
- Physiotherapy degree/or equivalent
- HPC Registration
- MSc or completed masters modules or equivalent in relevant subject
- Significant post qualification experience in musculoskeletal outpatients
- Experience at Band 7 level in Musculoskeletal outpatients
- Experience of management of complex Lower Limb disorders & surgery
- Highly specialist knowledge & experience of a wide range of approaches to the management of patients with a wide variety of complex musculoskeletal problems.
- Ability to work as an autonomous practitioner in an area where no support or advice may be available
- Evidence of commitment to advanced clinical and non-clinical continued professional development within musculoskeletal outpatients, e.g. post registration training, management competencies and evidence of a detailed personal development portfolio.
- Awareness of current evidence pertaining to Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and application to clinical practice, using advanced clinical reasoning skills.
- Previous experience of supervision and clinical education of a broad range of clinicians and students.
- Teaching experience to uni and multi-disciplinary groups with evidence of ability to deliver high quality presentations to senior staff.
