We're looking for an experienced, enthusiastic qualified Teacher of the Deaf to provide specialised skills within the Hearing Implant multidisciplinary team. We are a regional service caring for deaf children and adults across the South West of England. Using their experience and knowledge of practices and procedures in working with deaf babies, children and adolescents, the post holder will manage the support provided to these patients, carers and educational settings in their assessment and care pre and post implantation. The post holder will be based will be based at St Michael's Hospital, Bristol but as a regional service, support is delivered across the South West. The post is full time, working days Monday-Friday, although part-time hours may be considered. We are a small, very friendly and supportive team who are passionate about our quality of service

Main duties of the job

• To be part of a team of Teachers of the Deaf based at St Michael's Hospital, Bristol providing high quality specialist input to the regional specialist West of England Hearing Implant Programme.
• To work both within the multi-disciplinary team and independently, without direct supervision, maintaining accountability for own professional actions, within professional guidelines and Programme protocols.
• To work collaboratively with the Programme Speech and Language Therapists, Audiologists and Clinical Psychologist in assessment, joint report writing and goal setting.
• To be prepared to work in the hospital, the child's home and/or their educational setting.
• To assess and monitor patient's listening and communication, working closely with colleagues and local professionals, during the assessment phase. Ability to analyse and interpret the results as part of the decision making process.
• Be involved in the preparation for cochlear implants for the patient, their family and local professionals.
• To provide high quality, knowledgeable information on hearing loss, its impact on communication, and expectations and progress following implantation.
• To be familiar with, and confident in managing, the range of speech processors, accessories and assistive devices used by the Programme. To be able to troubleshoot the devices and support implant users to manage their equipment efficiently.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

• To be a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf
• To possess a full UK driving licence

Desirable

• To possess a CACDP signing qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

• Knowledge of child development and language acquisition
• Experience of working with deaf children of different ages and in different settings
• Experience in training other professionals using well developed presentation skills
• Experience in working effectively as part of a team and with other professionals
