The post holder will be part of the Forensic Psychiatry Service and the Adult Clinical Psychology Service within the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

The post-holder will support the provision of a psychological service to our two male forensic inpatient wards: a locked rehabilitation ward and an open rehabilitation ward, alongside the registrant psychologists. The post is full-time at 37.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be expected to work alongside Registrant Psychologists to develop formulations and treatment plans to address the presenting difficulties of clients that are based on the units.

This will involve conducting psychological assessments and relaying these to the clinical teams. Drawing from psychological models and robust psychological and specialist risk assessments, the post-holder will support the development of rehabilitation plans that build on the previous psychological work typically completed across treatment pathways. Opportunity to support the offer of reflective practice and formulation groups with the aim to develop skills within the workforce, will be available.

The post-holder will be joining a multi-disciplinary team where you will be supported by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Highly Specialist Forensic Psychologist based within the Forensic Psychiatry Service, an expanding service, with exciting opportunities in development. You will also be joining a thriving adult psychology speciality who meet regularly and provide a sense of professional identity and belonging. Opportunities for peer support are also available through the adult psychology speciality and wider psychology network.

The post holder will be responsible for:

Undertaking psychological assessments and interventions as part of the multi-professional team and as delegated by the Registrant Psychologist.

Forming and maintaining a relationship with service users with highly complex mental health needs

Undertaking clinically relevant research, service evaluation and audit as guided by the Registrant Psychologist.

Supporting the Registrant Psychologist to undertake teaching and training.

Carry out other duties as part of the role and as delegated by the Registrant Psychologist.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Undergraduate Degree (in psychology or conversion) oGraduate Basis for Registration


Desirable

  • Masters Degree or Post-graduate training


Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of Assistant role or research experience


Desirable

  • Previous experience of Forensic Mental Health Units
  • Ability to reflect on lived experience of distress/difficulties
