We are looking for a highly experienced, knowledgeable Nurse with proven experience working with children and young people with neurology conditions. You would work closely with all members of the MDT to provide comprehensive follow-up, in nurse-led clinics and joint clinics supporting the multidisciplinary management of patients diagnosed with epilepsy.

Working primarily within the tertiary neurology service at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, you would be working closely with the neurologist team to expand to tertiary neurology service offered at Chelsea and Westminster.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will develop and provide an advisory and supportive service to patients under the Paediatric neurology service primarily working with patients who have a known or suspected diagnosis of epilepsy. They will provide education and information to children, young people and their families regarding the management and treatment of complex seizures. As part of the team, they will work to develop the tertiary neurology service at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust as it continues to build its portfolio of treatments offered to patients with complex seizure presentations.

They will provide patient follow-up, developing a structured pathway and by monitoring email and telephone contacts, liaising effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team. They will act as an expert resource to professionals involved in the care of these patients both within the acute and primary care setting.

The post holder will maintain oversight of the services activity, governance and clinical outcomes, working with the team on change initiatives as required.

Clinical / direct care practice

To receive referrals within the specialty from the health care team and respond to requests for expert advice and guidance.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Sound knowledge of the principles & practice of specialist care
  • Ability to manage change, both personally & as a facilitator
  • Computer literate: able to use word, email, excel and manage databases
  • Experience of handling clinical incidents & complaints
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Understanding of professional and current issues in children's nursing
  • Child protection procedures

Education and Qualification

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (Child)
  • Evidence of ongoing, continuing professional development within pediatric care linked to demonstrable clinical competences
  • Relevant Degree in nursing/midwifery or health related field
  • Recognised teaching qualification eg ENB998
  • Specialist qualification eg British Paediatric Neurology Association Paediatric Epilepsy Training Level 1 & 2 (or willingness to work towards)

  • Non medical prescriber quailfication

  • Relevent Post registration experience working as an experienced Band 6 (+2years)
  • Excellent relevant Paediatric clinical skills
