We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic and passionate nurse to work in the School Nursing Team based in Cardiff and Vale UHB. The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and be registered on part 3 of the NMC register, as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse - School Nurse.

The key role of the post holder will be to manage a defined caseload of school age children to ensure that they receive a healthcare service that will enable them to reach their educational potential and empower them to lead healthy lifestyles.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the band 6 Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) are -

Provide emotional support and signposting to children and young people, through young persons health hubs and the provision of the CHAT HEALTH confidential text in service

Undertake safeguarding duties and work within the Wales Safeguarding Procedures (2019)

Support Community Staff Nurses when required, to deliver the Child Measurement Programme and School Entry Health Screening programme

Support delivery of the school based immunisation programme

Support with School Nurse service improvement, delivery, and assist in the implementation of the Welsh Government Initiative- Healthy Child Wales Programme: for school aged children 2024.

Support educational staff with the delivery of health promotion in schools, if required

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with entry onto the 3rd part of the NMC Register (SCPHN


Desirable

  • RN Childrens Nursing
  • Ability to work effectively in a team


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of school health/community nursing.
  • Extensive postregistration nursing experience.


Desirable

  • Experience in Paediatric Nursing, Health Promotion/ Health Education


Skills

Essential

  • Ability to manage a caseload, lead and work well within a skill mix team.
  • Good communication, organisational, analytical and negotiating skills.


Desirable

  • IT Skills


special Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of child protection policies and procedure. An understanding of the principles of Public Health.
  • Ability to support the emotional wellbeing of children and young people.
