The Infection Nurse Specialist Team are looking to recruit a RGN to join the team as a Band 6 in providing clinical care and treatment of patients with Infection who meet Early discharge criteria on referral to Outpatient parental antimicrobial team (OPAT)
Applicants must be experienced Band 5 / Band 6 Nurses and must be up to date (update completed) and currently practicing relevant clinical skills on Venepuncture ,Cannulation and ANTT. Obtaining Blood cultures, accessing PICC or Midlines are essentials and ABG ,blood culture, Clinical Diagnostics and Examination are desirable.
Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills, having an ability to communicate sensitive information to patients and relatives where there may be barriers to communication or when reassurance is required.
All applicants should have good understanding of Sepsis and antimicrobial stewardship as a preference but not essential. Having good educational presentation skills are desirable.
Current working hours are 8-10hr shifts between the hours of 8am - 6pm Monday - Friday, please note this is a temporary working pattern and subject to change in accordance with the demands of the service, the service will become a 7-day working service in the near future.
Cross site working may be expected

Clinical
To work alongside with the Infection Team on guidance for clinical teams in the area of OPAT with some on the area of education
To provide nursing input into the early discharge of patient on referral to OPAT from ward teams and prevention of admission from Primary care.
To provide initial assessment of patient needs after referral to OPAT
Be confident in the use of intravenous access.
Promote Antimicrobial stewardship.
To involve patients and carers/relatives in the development of services.
To collect and analyze relevant data in conjunction with the Clinical lead for Infection
To liaise with outside health care agencies as necessary
To liaise with clinical staff in other areas of healthcare to ensure a seamless service.
To review national/local documents and advise on their impact on legislation.
To provide readily available information to staff and act as a specialist advisor in all matters relating to OPAT, where specific medical advice is not required.
To advise contracting departments, participating in the preparation of documents relating to service specifications and quality standards.
To take necessary action to ensure the safety and welfare of staff, patients and visitors in compliance with current Health and Safety
To use IT skills to input into MS office applications and specific Infection programmes to ensure the effective communication and storage of patient information relating to OPAT
Liaison/Advice
To provide advice, information and support to the Quality and Governance
To provide advice with regard to risk management, Standards for better Health and other Department of Health guidance.
Personal and Professional Development
To work with colleagues to continuously improve service and support own personal development through clinical supervision or other agreed formal
