Ward 4 is a 30 bedded Stroke Unit which is recruiting a motivated and driven Band 7 Ward Manager to lead and manage their team. This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced registered nurse who is highly motivated and enthusiastic, with a keen interest in caring for patients with Acute Stroke needs.

Applicants should display effective Leadership and management skills in order to lead the team to deliver high quality patient focused care.

The stroke unit is friendly and supportive and has a commitment to providing a high quality of nursing care.

The post holder will lead the Nursing team in providing care to patients acting under the supervision of the Matron. The post holder should work effectively within a team environment, have good communication skills, initiative, demonstrate enthusiasm about the role and share our passion and vision for providing high quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide leadership, clinical expertise and organisation of the stroke ward assuming twenty four hour responsibility for the effective management of the ward itself.

they will continuously develop and enhance knowledge and skills that will directly influence consistent standards of clinical practice and ensure the highest possible standards of evidence based care are achieved in order to promote patient focused care.

The post holder will lead and manage the ward team and directly manage the ward budget. They will also contribute to overall service improvement and day-to-day management of the hospital.

They will promote patient centred high quality evidence based care to patients on the ward, ensuring the patient is central to all aspects of treatment and care.

Responsibility for ensuring the effective and efficient use of all resources within a defined clinical area, as well as controlling ward expenditure and management of the ward budget.

Communicate effectively with all the multi- disciplinary teams both internal and external to the organisation.

Provide clinical leadership to a group of staff within the ward and throughout the care group.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Essential

Registered General Nurse with current NMC Registration.

Evidence of working in a leadership/management role.

Evidence of relevant academic achievement at degree level or equivalent experience and evidence of continuous professional development.

Proven ability in teaching others via a teaching and assessment qualification or relevant experience

Evidence of effective audit and budget management.

Proven clinical credibility at a senior nursing level.

Experienced in the role of mentor to students and developing the ward to be an effective learning environment.

Proven effective interpersonal skills with an ability to demonstrate managing people and processes via evidence of clinical experience at a senior nursing level.

IT skills e.g. Use of the internet to access nursing data bases and for report writing.

Evidence of motivating and empowering staff to continually develop themselves

Ability to work flexibly within a multi-disciplinary team

Ability to work under own initiative, demonstrate direction and meet deadlines

Ability to work hours flexibly when service needs require

Desirable

Knowledge of relevant and current national policies, agendas and directives relating to nursing and health care provision.

Stroke experience

Relevant senior nursing experience
