Main duties of the job
We are looking for experienced Children's Nurses who are enthusiastic and passionate about providing high quality care to our children and Young people requiring High Dependency Care.
As part of this role, you will supporting the service in the development of the Paediatric HDU service, as well as being a clinical role model and advocate for your patients. You will work closely with the Senior Nursing Team to support the Development of the HDU service and the continued development within the CYP service. You will be involved in the implement of improvements in practice to ensure the best experience and outcomes for our patients and their families. You will encourage and empower other team members to develop both personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential whilst also using your experience to provide clinical leadership.

Job responsibilities
To co-ordinate the ward/area as a whole, effectively maintaining paediatric patients flow through the ward/unit, with specific focus of children requiring HDU care.
To escalate delays in the delivery of care and management of paediatric patients, in accordance with Trust Escalation Procedures, to meet National Performance Targets.
To supervise the activities of the multi-disciplinary team, promoting collaborative working relationships to facilitate the delivery of holistic patient centred, seamless care for all patients.
To co-ordinate the activities of the paediatric nursing team, on a shift-to-shift basis, and provide skilled nursing (without direct supervision) to patients, in accordance with responsibilities under the NMC Code of Conduct.
To prioritise care needs, ensuring the delivery of a quality service through effective leadership and efficient deployment of available resources.
To work proactively in the delivery of high-quality care and a positive patient experience of patients ensuring the voice of the child is present in service delivery. Primarily this will be through effective role modelling of professional behaviours and the deployment of practice development and educational methodologies.

- Support a developing team in the care of the unwell child and provide high quality care to our patients.

As a Deputy Sister/ Charge Nurse you will need:
- To be a Registered Children's Nurse
- Have a minimum of 2-3 years experience within Children's Nursing
- Have completed Paediatric HDU/Critical care course (Or working towards)
- Have evidence of care of the critically unwell child ( HDU care)
- Have evidence of continuing professional development
- Have experience and training in the initial assessment / triage of infants, children and young people
- Be EPALS (or equivalent) trained
- To be an exceptional communicator
- To be willing to drive improvements within CYP services
- Completed practice assessor training (or working towards)
