The Intensive Dementia Support Service (IDSS) is a countywide crisis service for people with dementia and cognitive impairment with bases in both Yeovil and Taunton.

We are seeking a Band 6 Occupational Therapists to join this exciting and innovative team based in the East team in Yeovil. The team serves Yeovil, Chard, Crewkerne, Wincanton, Glastonbury, Wells ,Frome and surrounding villages.

You will have an Occupational Therapy qualification and experience of working in a community setting is essential. You will work closely with the Band 6 Mental Health Nursing colleagues to provide functional assessment of patients with dementia in their own homes.

Main duties of the job

The aims of the teams are to be reactive and responsive to assess and treat patients at points of crisis in their usual place of residence or to support them whilst in a non-mental health inpatient environment. This includes within patients own homes, within our community hospitals, nursing and residential homes and in Acute Hospitals.

The IDSS provides a 7-day service between 8am and 8pm with the opportunity to work either 8 hour or 12 hour shifts.

You will have the opportunity to further develop andutilise your risk assessment skills, use recognised assessment tools, be involved in the implementation of risk management plans, and demonstrate the ability to react to the changing needs of our patients.

You will be part of a duty worker rota undertaking some generic mental health work and will also supervise the Band 5 Occupational Therapist.
