The role includes working closely and effectively with the multi-disciplinary team in the management ofthe stroke unit. This includes the support and leadership provided to nursing and support staff withinthe Stroke unit and the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. The role also includes the continuing responsibility forthe effective delivery of the philosophy, policies, and standards of care and morale of the department inline with the Trust vision to provide excellent clinical care in the right setting by being compassionate,responsive and innovative.The post holder will aim to ensure that all patients are provided with safe and high quality standards ofcare. They will be aware of the National stroke care standards and support the nursing staff and multidisciplinary team ensuring that they are maintained. The post holder also has clinical, teaching,managerial, and staff development responsibilities.The post-holder will have the responsibility of the overall management of the nursing staff,deliver patient care and lead a team of staff by acting as a role model for excellence in strokenursing, provide leadership supervision and work in collaboration with the practicedevelopment nurse in development of junior nursing staff.

Main duties of the job

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES? Will work with the nursing team in the overall management of the area, and take particularresponsibility for their nominated team and patient care/management.? Ability to accept responsibility for own actions in accordance with NMC codes of conduct.? Provide high standards of patient care through effective physical, psychological, social andemotional assessment, and formalise an effective plan of care for the patients with theclinical area based on current research.? Assume responsibility for the development of junior staff, supporting and acting as anassessor / mentor/ role model within the clinical area.? Promote health education in the clinical area, advising patients, relatives and staff, referringto other specialists for further information when appropriate.? Ensures a high degree of knowledge relating to clinical equipment with ability to teach andsupport staff in their use.? Maintain knowledge in the recognition and effective response to emergency / untowardclinical incidents or management issues, in line with trust policies.? Assume responsibility for the monitoring of clinical and environmental standards impactingon patient care including ward (e.g. unit cleanliness, health and safety and infection control.? Administer medications in line with trust policy (oral, IV, SC, etc.), and assume responsibilityfor the safe custody of medicines covered by Control of Drugs Act.
