We are looking for a highly motivated, digitally experienced pharmacy technician to join the Digital Pharmacy Team to deliver the implementation of and maintenance of clinical medicines-related IT systems across the trust, including robotic automation and electronic prescribing. We are looking for candidates who have a genuine interest in IT systems, and the opportunities that can be gained. Experience of pharmacy computer systems is essential, and IT prescribing systems an advantage. You will be responsible for implementing and supporting the Medicines Management Digital Pharmacy Strategywithin Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. You will be supported by the Team Manager for Medicines Management Clinical Systems and the Medicines Management Strategic Management Team. The goal of the digital pharmacy team is to help the Trust work towards the medicines optimisation strategy which has digital innovation at the forefront.

The department is committed to investing in new digital technologies to improve patient care and staff experience. There are opportunities to work closely with colleagues on multiple digital transformation projects to improve medicines usage.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this role is to support the implementation and maintenance of clinical medicines-related IT systems across the trust, including robotic automation and electronic prescribing. You will be involved with development, implementation, maintenance and optimisation of the medicines management IT systems including the System C Medicines Management system. You will be supported by a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and data analysts. This role will include updating configuration as required, and reviewing, testing and implementing new functionality and upgrades as they are developed. You will be responsible for training and supporting staff, and for developing relevant procedures.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly in line with the hours of operation.

Job description

Job responsibilities

You will manage the trusts pharmacy systems, ensuring they are safe and meet the needs of patients and staff across the trusts expanded footprint. You will be responsible for ensuring there are effective governance and audit processes in place with regards to system changes and will co-ordinate all aspects of clinical IT systems and other ancillary systems. You will lead and manage upgrades and rationalisation of these systems in use.

You will act as an expert & advocate for digital pharmacy systems to all users across the Trust and negotiate changes in practice with staff inside and outside of Pharmacy who will be affected by the implementation of the service to enhance service user care and medication safety.

Engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels, both within and outside of the trust, acting as an ambassador for the use of medicines-related IT systems and securing the involvement and commitment of staff and other stakeholders. As the post works with lots of stakeholders within the pharmacy department and wider Trust, excellent communication skills are essential.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly in line with the hours of operation.

Key aspects of the role include:
  • Ensuring the digital clinical IT systems implemented support the delivery of the Pharmacy service and optimises medicines use across the Trust.
  • Providing support with System C medicines management system end user engagement, and in the provision of training Pharmacy staff and other health professionals.
  • Continued management and development of technical and clinical aspects of Clinical IT systems.
  • Ensuring the clinical IT systems and the processes associated with it are in line with the Clinical Governance and Quality Assurance agenda of the Trust.
  • Ensuring medicines management processes promote safe medication practice across the Trust.
  • To support the project team in the design and implementation of all pharmacy systems optimisation projects.
  • To work with the Project Lead and Digital pharmacy team to ensure the projects run to the agreed timelines.
  • Becoming a System C medicines management system superuser.
  • To be involved in writing, reviewing and agreeing standard operating procedures and standards of service for the updated pharmacy systems.
  • Experience of System C medicines management system configuration would be advantageous, but other systems would be considered.
  • Experience of clinical informatics (i.e. healthcare IT, data ).
  • Confident with use of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
