We are a dedicated Urology Unit currently offering Monday - Friday out-patients services for Urological patients requiring diagnostic or therapeutic interventions for a variety of Urological conditions.
We offer unique opportunities to undertake training to deliver both Nurse-led services and support Medical colleagues perform out-patient procedures and assessments. We offer full training alongside experienced nurses supported by our highly skilled health care assistants.We are looking for enthusiastic motivated individuals who would thrive on the challenges of these diverse and busy clinics. Our current service delivery includes urodynamic assessments, diagnostic flexible cystoscopy lists, trial without catheter clinics, prostate biopsy clinics, lithotripsy treatment for renal stones, complex catheter clinics, continence and andrology services.
Main duties of the job
The nurse specialist role is diverse and ever expanding. For this role you will be expected to learn and perform independent flexible cystoscopy lists and prostate biopsies after training and assessment. Other roles such as urodynamic assessments, supra pubic catheter changes and participating in the education staff and patients will also be required.
You will be expected to manage your own case load of patients and participate in the day to day activity of the department. You must be able to work on your own initiative, be forward thinking with good prioritization and organisational skills and have the desire to be part of an expanding nursing team who are at the forefront of ever developing Nurse-led services.
Excellent communication skills are key not only to improving your patients experience but also to contribute towards effective teamwork.We are dedicated to invest our time in developing you professionally as an individual. You will have your own personal support through the specialist nurse team and consultant body in order to meet your own development needs.

Job description
Job responsibilities
- Work autonomously, providing an effective nurse-led service as needs dictate.
- Demonstrate comprehensive holistic assessment of patients utilising a variety of advancedclinical skills, while acting as a role model, in line with the Clinical Nurse Specialist role forthe service.
- To assess and diagnose specific symptoms within scope of practice advise medical andnursing staff and/or prescribe medications according to patients requirements, writing arecord in the medical notes and reassessing according to the individual patient needs.
- Provide an effective and accessible telephone advice service for patients and families andtheir carers.
- Promote and initiate innovations and change related to improvement of clinical services inrelation to the speciality.
- To maintain an accurate and effective record keeping system, collecting statistical data andwriting reports on a regular basis, and presenting to appropriate forums within and externalto Trust.
- Assist with the management of complaints (including being the lead for investigations) review services and assist with Serious Incident (SIs) root cause analysis (RCAs) inconjunction with senior team.
