The bladder and bowel service is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate bladder and bowel nurse to join our dynamic team. We specialise in patient centred care that improves the quality of our patients lives. You will be pivotal in supporting our patients with bladder and bowel issues through individualised treatment and care planning.

Main duties of the job

You will conduct thorough assessments of patients with bladder and bowel issues, develop and implement individualised care plans and educate patients and their families on bladder and bowel management techniques and lifestyle adjustments. Working with our multi disciplinary teams you will deliver comprehensive care, evaluating and adjusting care plans as necessary. Key to the role is supporting patients emotionally and addressing their needs and any negative body issues, by promoting bladder and bowel health through education and positive attitude for these often embarrassing issues.

Qualifications

Essential

  • * Current registration as a First Level General Nurse


Experience

Essential

  • * Knowledge in Safeguarding, issues and procedures


Desirable

  • * Previous experience in urology or functional bowel conditions
  • * Previous community or care home experience

  • * Comments on policies and procedures in own area of practice. Implements policies as required.
  • * General care of own equipment and responsibility to maintain stock control of standard items e.g. stationery when required.
  • * Demonstrate own role to others as needed.
  • * Responsible for the contemporaneous recording and storage of data or client records in accordance with Trust policies or professional judgement.
  • * Work under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Specialist report any major changes to the Clinical Nurse Specialist within an appropriate time frame.
  • * Ability to assess, analyse and communicate with a wide range of professional and non professional groups at individual or group level, on a wide range of often complex health and professional related issues.
  • * Demonstrates high level and of verbal and written communication.
  • * An ability to facilitate clear communication under a wide range of circumstances, which are often sensitive or complex in nature.
  • * Ability to analyse and interpret complex facts or situations.
  • * Ability to prioritise between competing demands on personal and professional resources
  • * High levels of analytical and judgement skills maybe required on occasions
  • * High degree of organisational and planning skills required to facilitate a wide variety of professional activities and demands from own practice.
  • * Good time managements skills
  • * Ability to manage junior members of staff in the absence of the caseload holder* Ability to work as part of a team
  • * Highly developed interpersonal skill, which facilitates relationships with patients, clients and professionals from other disciplines and agencies
  • * Requires flexibility to meet the needs of the service.
  • * Have the ability to manage periods of intense concentration in dealing with complex issues. This may occur when dealing with difficult situations i.e. in the palliative care situation.
  • * Car driver/car owner
  • * To liaise with external business partners when required.


Desirable

  • * To have full knowledge of intermittent catheters, the range of products, indication and contraindication of use. To be able to deliver teaching of these products within the home or clinic setting to patients / carers or family members
  • * To have full knowledge of trans anal irrigation, the range of product, indication and contraindication of use. To be able to deliver teaching of these products within the home or clinic setting to patients/ carers or family members.
  • * To be familiar with different devices/products that help contain both urinary and faecal incontinence. Understand the use and appropriate fitting of the product. Teaching patients/ carers and family members.
