The Inpatient Ward (D603) at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) are recruiting for a Senior Staff Nurse.
We are a dedicated team of compassionate, skilled professionals looking for a new member of our senior nursing team. You will bring clinical expertise, leadership experience and a real understanding of what good quality care looks like. You will be crucial to maintaining the high standards of which we are proud and inspiring the nursing team to deliver the best care to our patients.
D603 is a 26 bedded adult combined Oncology and Haematology inpatient unit. We specialise in chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiotherapy treatments including taking direct admissions from our BHOC acute assessment unit for patient who are having complications post treatment such as neutropenic sepsis, spinal cord compression, bowel obstruction, immuno-toxicity and superior vena cava obstruction.
D603 has a molecular radiotherapy treatment area to provide treatments such as Lutathera. We are co-located with D601, our specialist TYA unit (Teenager and Young Adults with cancer) which provides age-appropriate care for 16-24 year old's who have haematology or oncology conditions. As part of the D603 senior nurse team you will also work in the BHOC acute assessment unit leading on emergency care for patients that attend out of hours.
Main duties of the job
The senior staff nurse role will be key to ensuring our department continues to achieve this level of quality. The Centre has an excellent reputation nationally and internationally for research and innovation, and we are the regional specialist centre in the Southwest for Oncology and Haematology as well as palliative care.
The successful candidate should have significant experience in a relevant specialism. You will be expected to work the full range of shifts including long days, nights and weekends.

- Act as a clinical expert providing specialist knowledge and advice to both nurses and junior medical staff working within the unit. Act as a resource to other areas within the Trust as required.
- Work towards safe and timely discharge plans and ensure barriers to discharge are identified and acted on in a timely and appropriate manner.
- To be proactive in supporting the nursing team and acting as a positive role model always promoting best clinical and professional practice.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills. Be actively involved in recruitment and staff development reviews. Facilitate orientation and training programmes.
- To act as nurse or ward representative at local and wider meetings.
- To participate and assist with systematic monitoring of performance and evaluation of nursing practice
