We are seeking a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in CAMHS Crisis Assessment & Treatment Team (C-CATT) to work across two sites (Lister Hospital and Watford Clinic)

Main duties of the job

About your role

The C-CATT (CAMHS Crisis Assessment & Treatment Team) focuses on early intervention for young people in crisis. The team has a response time of four hours.

As a Consultant Psychiatrist in C-CAT, you will be required to work closely with the multidisciplinary team and other agencies as appropriate in providing a comprehensive tier 3+ CAMH service for the under 18 population. The post holder will must also provide psychiatric input to complex, high risk cases presenting in crisis to either the acute hospital, the 136 suite or occasionally within the community.

The post holder must liaise as appropriate with local paediatrics team colleagues, safeguarding colleagues and other multi-agency colleagues to support the care of young people presenting in acute mental health/psychosocial crisis.

You must ensure the relevant professional registration is maintained, including Section 12, Approved Clinician, and Responsible Clinician status.

Job description Job responsibilities

A few of the duties may include but not restricted to;
  • Provision of the Psychiatric component of a CAMHS Crisis service to the under 18 population Hertfordshire. The team functions as a nurse led service but multi-disciplinary colleagues will request psychiatric support for certain cases either for your oversight and advice or for clinical review.
  • To work closely with the multidisciplinary team and other agencies as appropriate in providing a comprehensive tier 3+ CAMH service for the under 18 population. To provide psychiatric input to complex, high-risk cases presenting in crisis to either the acute hospital, the 136 suite or occasionally within the community. This may involve some ongoing management whilst the young person remains under the CAMHS Crisis Team.
  • Providing consultation, advice and appropriate support to professionals in the wider network of the young person and/or family
  • To provide clinical leadership within the CCATT, to participate in Leadership meetings as a member of the senior leadership team and to input into governance issues, operational functions and strategic service direction.
  • Contribute to the clinical supervision of the trainees allocated to the service
  • To write letters and communications to General Medical practitioners and other professionals as required.


Person Specification Professional Qualifications Essential
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within 3 months of CCT or equivalent in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Experience, Skills & Knowledge Essential
  • Section 12 / Approved Clinician Status
  • Broad range of experience in psychiatric practice and in the use of psychological therapies.
  • Experience and competencies in assessing, and treating children and adolescents with complex mental health needs and their families. It is expected a high level skills in liaison with and consultancy to multiagency settings.
  • Willingness and ability to work with others to achieve shared goals.
  • Previous experience of working in a child and adolescent service.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to demonstrate experience and knowledge of Safeguarding in child and adolescent mental health particularly in this group of young people.
  • IT Skills
Desirable
  • Formal training in management and administration
  • Participated in research and published papers and original work in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience in organising Educational activities.
  • Experience of service quality monitoring (e.g. clinical audit, evaluative research etc.)
  • Ability to critically appraise research findings
Personal Abilities Essential
  • Ability to work with young people whose behaviour is personally challenging.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships and boundaries with young people.
  • Ability to contribute to a working environment which contributes to young people's healthy development.
  • Ability to think clearly and express self.
  • Ability to assess reports and clinical information and provide clear and concise information tailored for different audiences.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with others.
