An HNC in electronics, or equivalent, is the minimum qualification, plus certified training on a wide range of medical equipment, plus at least 2 years practical experience as a Hospital EBME engineer.
The person we are seeking must be a good team worker, with good communications, willing to be flexible and supportive, and able to take responsibility for their workload both in quality and volume.
Experience of using a computer data base for job management is essential, and good computer literacy is expected. A current driving license is essential.
Hours are 37.5 (8-5 Monday - Friday) You will participate in Out of Hours On Call ROTA.
**Please note that interviews are face to face, and there is a practical test prior to interview, you must be able to attend the Trust Hospital site in person**
Main duties of the job
1. Accountable to Head of EBME
2. To Provide specialised clinical technical services in order to repair, maintain and electrical safety testing of complex and patient critical used for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
3. Communicate with clinical users to gain a full understanding of the nature of fault or problem with the medical equipment. Assess the seriousness of the issues and implications and respond appropriately to the urgency of the requests.
4. Contribute to the planned preventative maintenance systems for the above equipment.
5. Produce comprehensive reports for each repair/maintenance job carried out.
6. Provide first line training for clinical staff within the Trust.
7. Main site of work University Hospital Lewisham but may also be required to work on any site used by the trust.
There is support between the two main sites and flexibility in working at Lewisham is required from time to time. Support to outlying community sites may also be required.

Job Summary:

Key Result Areas & Performance:
1. Undertake advanced fault finding processes. Apply suitable fault finding process to diagnose faults and carry out repair and maintenance for all equipment within the EBME department remit and to ensure it functions to manufacturers specifications.Contribute to the efficient running of the planned Preventative Maintenance scheme to ensure: - Equipment is regularly checked for safety. It functions to manufacturers specifications. Carry out calibration and quality control checks Carry out acceptance and electrical safety testing in accordance with local procedures. To contribute to the departmental defect and failure computerised reporting system and ensure scientific and technical records are recorded to high standards for future reference. Inform the EBME Head of EBME and other EBME staff of the performance or condition of equipment in the post holders remit. Act as an identified technician for clinical areas, acting as a first point of contact for clinical issues in relation to medical equipment. Prioritise and manage own workload in accordance with departmental procedures and service demands. Ensure all works carried out are within a quality framework and meet manufacturers and regulatory requirements. Have regular meetings with the Head of EBME and propose changes to departmental work methods and policies. Practice appropriate workshop techniques so that the department is clean and tidy to ensure a safe working environment for all staff. Assist in maintaining of an adequate stock of spares such that the most immediate component parts are available to affect a timely service to the user. To assist Medical and Nursing managers in the procurement and acceptance testing of new equipment in line with current Codes of Practice. To provide training, advice and to liaise with Operational and Clinical staff on aspects of equipment usage. Train other technicians in the full range of techniques and methods used in the EBME Department. Participate in clinical trials and equipment evaluations. Carry out all duties in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work act, statutory regulations, approved codes of conduct and local rules Attend training sessions to improve knowledge and personnel development and thereby enable the department to provide a better service. To participate in a departmental On-call rota to provide an emergency out of hours service. Currently one week in four. This may vary according to the needs of the service. This service includes technical advice over the phone and/or attending the site to carry out essential repairs. To deal directly with patients who use hospital equipment at home. To carry out any other duties deemed necessary by the Head of EBME that are appropriate for the grade to ensure the appropriate levels of service are maintained by the department.

Work force
- You would be responsible to the Head of EBME
- The work load is a combination of PPMs generated by the database used within EBME and the reactive work that is reported by members of staff within the hospital via the helpdesk.
- You will be expected to be able to work unsupervised when out and about in the hospital whilst carrying out jobs on behalf of the EBME department.
- You will be responsible for generating new jobs on the EBME database as part of the PPM/Reactive work.
- You would be responsible for keeping the database used in EBME up to date, with you notes about the jobs that you have been dealing with.
- Provide specialist non-clinical advice to Clinic and nonclinical members of staff, relating to medical devices.
