An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Ward Sister/Charge Nurse Band 6, on Morlais Ward, based at Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen. Morlais Ward is a 9 bedded acute adult mental health inpatient ward with allocated CAMHS inpatient provision.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join our team. Our team offers a great staff to patient ratio in order to provide excellent, person-centred care in an environment where learning and reflective practice are encouraged and fostered.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision and to teach other nursing and non nursing staff. This will involve the regular supervision and appraisal of staff nurses and undertaking a clinical lead on the unit in support of the Ward Manager.

Main duties of the job

Outstanding communication, leadership and documentation skills will be essential for this challenging yet rewarding role. In return support, training and regular supervision will be given.

The post holder will be expected to take charge in the absence of the Ward Manager who has overall continuing responsibility.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knoweldge

Essential

  • Current registration on a professional register.
  • Specialist knowledge within the field of clinical skills gained through theoretical and practical training and experience to postgraduate diploma level.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical issues within area of practice
  • Must be able to work safely and demonstrate understanding of Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Maintains high standards in the workplace as directed by policies and procedures including sickness
  • Knowledge of clinical supervision and aware of clinical effectiveness in work area


Desirable

  • WNB 998/Practice Teacher Award and assessing or equivalent.
  • HCR-20 Training
  • Specialist knowledge within relevant specialist field obtained through advanced post registration specialist training
  • Have understanding and knowledge of local area and facilities within area that clients may access


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with people who have complex mental health needs and who may present challenging behaviours/ risk of violence to others
  • Experience on ongoing professional development and must be willing to undertake identified local courses/ study days and mandatory training
