An exciting opportunityhas arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible and committed Band 5 Registered Nurse to join the well-established Colposcopy Service within the Gynaecology Department. You will be motivated and keen to enhance and develop your skills in Gynaecology. We currently operate clinics between Monday to Friday. The current role is permanent 30 hours per week.
We are a small dedicated team of nurses, clinicians and non-medical staff who strive to deliver excellent patient centred care for people with gynaecological issues. These include colposcopy, menstrual disorders, postmenopausal bleeding, cystoscopy and vulval disorders. Procedures include LLETZ, vulval biopsies, cystoscopy, hysteroscopy and Bulkamid.
The successful applicant will work predominantly in the Colposcopy Department, but may be required to work across the Gynaecology Outpatient Services including Hysteroscopy, Urogynaecology, Fertility, Early Pregnancy Clinic and gynaecology ward in times of staff shortages and sickness.
Given the sensitive nature of this speciality, the successful applicant will have experience of nursing in Women's Health and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills.

Main duties of the job
As a Band 5 Registered Nurse you will be assisting gynaecology clinicians and Nurse Specialists in clinic rooms and gynaecology ward. This will entail preparing equipment for procedures and assisting with the collection of samples. Assisting patients post procedure, either immediate treatment for pain, sickness, vasovagal episodes or help with information and future management.
There is also a day to day tasks to help with the overall running of the department. For example, checking of stock, departmental cleaning and preparing paperwork for the clinics ahead.
An important part of this role is supporting patients through their journey within the department. Ensuring patient dignity and being supportive throughout their appointment and procedures. This can be challenging at times as we have women who will receive a cancer diagnosis or pregnancy loss and therefore may require extra care and support.
Youwould need to be a committed individual able to work within the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective delivery of a high quality patient experience, with a flexible approach and the ability to deal with the complex and sensitive nature of women's health.

To be responsible for the assessment and development of care needs, delivery and implementation of nursing care to a dedicated group of patients.
Educateand prepare women for colposcopy procedures.
To provide support in colposcopy, hysteroscopy, other gynaecology outpatient clinics, and gynaecology ward
To ensure a high standard of nursing care is performed at all times and assist in the review and regular update of these standards.
To maintain high standards of clinical performance.
To assist and support the Colposcopist with their clinical duties.
Ensure maintenance and safe use of Colposcopy equipment.
Ability to recognise and respond appropriately to changes in the patients condition and safety.
Adhere to all Trust Policies to maintain professional, clinical and patient safety.
Care and control of medication and controlled drugs used for patient care, being aware of the systems used for safe administration and the ordering and maintenance of stock.
Be aware of the principles of infection control and the prevention of cross infection in relation to patient care and the clinical environment.
To provide nursing cover where required in other gynaecology outpatient clinics or the gynaecology ward.
Be able to communicate basic aftercare information and answer queries from patients, their relatives/carers and the multidisciplinary team members.
Demonstrate an understanding of womens health issues, good communication skills and a commitment to providing high standards of care, which are essential attributes to the post.
To ensure a positive patient-focused service incorporating patients feedback to maintain and improve patient care.
To maintain high standards of clinical performance.
To provide a high standard of individualised care to patients, whilst maintaining at all times their privacy and dignity.
To support the maintenance of high standards of cleanliness and infection control within the clinical area
