We are pleased to advertise an exciting new position to which we would welcome applications from highly motivated individuals to work alongside our existing administration, cancer tracking and clinical teams in our Gynae-Oncology Service.

The North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (NENC ICB) and Northern Cancer Alliance (NCA) are working with our commissioners to establish a Managed Clinical Network for Gynae-Oncology services in the region. This will support one regional specialist Gynae Oncology service delivered over several hospital sites in the NENC. Whilst establishing thisnetwork will take time, the teams delivering these services are already working collaboratively to support timely access to cancer care for patients.

We are seeking to recruit motivated and patient focused team members to support us with this approach to care. As a Regional Cancer Pathway Navigator you will be based in either South Tees NHS Foundation Trust (James Cook University Hospital) or Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust(Queen Elizabeth Hospital) (one post in each location) but will be working closely with your colleagues across the region in both tertiary, secondary and primary care.

The post holders will support patients through their treatment journey, as they move between specific services provided by different Trusts, to ensure our patients receive the right care in the right place.

Main duties of the job

This post would suit an individual who is passionate about delivering a coordinated and well organised journey to our patients as they progress through their cancer referral pathway.

With frequent contact with patients and their families, it is essential that the post holders have well developed communications skills and are emotionally resilient with a caring and sensitive attitude.

The post-holder will also have excellent communication skills to liaise with a wide range of health professionals to ensure tests and appointments are coordinated and scheduled in a timely manner and patients are kept informed at all times.

Support to the established regional Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDT) will be key, along with the ability to build relationships with all members of the MDT from various organisations, particularly the MDT leads and Clinical Nurse Specialist team. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of cancer targets and patient pathways.

As this is a new post, piloting a new way of working, the successful applicant will work closely with the service line management team to establish and develop the role to bring optimal benefits to our patients and service. Therefore, this post would welcome individuals who enjoy change and are keen to influence service developments.

This is a full-time post - job share and secondments would be considered.

This post may close at sufficient applicants.
