Beach Renal has 18 Renal and Urology Beds, at present there are 13 beds that are dedicated for Short Stay Surgery and there is an integrated Haemodialysis unit. Staff have the opportunity to work across all three areas.

We care for children from birth, through to young adulthood, with support from our transition services, we are one of 2 paediatric renal transplant centres in London with a very active living related donor scheme.

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 nurses to join our team

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning and provision of specialist nursing advice and carrying out specialist nursing procedures.

The post holder will provide clinical supervision to other staff, students and may undertake research, and lead clinical audits in their own specialist area.

Ensuring the safety and well-being of service users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person-centred care principles.

Main duties of the job

As part of this role, you will be a clinical role model and advocate for your patients. You will work closely with the senior nursing team to continue to move the service forward and implement improvements in practice to ensure the best experience and outcomes for our patients and their families. As a band 6 paediatric nurse you will have the opportunity to develop all your leadership and clinical skills in a busy, positive and supportive environment.

Job description

Job responsibilities

-Ensure that patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patientexperience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs anddoctrines.

-Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilstworking as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised andpersonalised direct patient care

-To be responsible, for maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitorsand other staff within the clinical environment.

-Ensure staff take precautions to minimise the risk of cross infection inrelation to the safe disposal of body fluids (including blood).

-Assess educational and information needs for patients and families, anddevise plans to ensure need are met.

-Promote high quality clinical care, and assist in the development of thespecialist service, through the use of evidence based practice and clinicalstandards

-Identify and intervene where circumstances contribute to an unsafeenvironment for patients and staff. To bring instances to the attention ofthe Sister/Charge Nurse for the area.

-Facilitate a high quality, cost effective specialist service through monitoringand audit and other quality initiatives agreed by the Trust

-Identify and raise awareness of the educational needs of patients andcarers and implement appropriate education programmes

-To assist the Sister/Charge Nurse in developing a culture that ischallenging, stimulating, rewarding and supportive.

-Assist the Sister/Charge nurse to ensure that all students and newlyappointed staff have identified mentors/preceptors.

-Contribute and assist the Sister/Charge Nurse to foster a learningenvironment within the clinical area.

-Promote and undertake nursing research updating own knowledge topromote excellence in clinical practice.

-Provide a leadership role model and demonstrate specialist knowledgeand high standards of clinical practice and provide support or advice whennecessary.

-In co-ordinating the day-to-day management of the clinical area, delegatesduties and care appropriately whilst maintaining overall responsibility.

-Ensures that staffing and skill mix is maintained, at all times, to a level thatdoes not compromise patient safety.

-To be involved in the development, assessment and implementation ofguidelines, protocols and pathways.

-To deputise for the Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence

  • Post-registration experience within relevant speciality
  • Experience in co-ordinating a shift
  • Experience of teaching/assessing/ supervising others in a clinical setting.
  • Experienced and competent in the management of patients within the speciality


Qualifications/ Education

Essential

  • BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
  • Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD


Desirable

  • Post registration qualification in speciality or demonstrate relevant experience and competence (appropriate area of speciality)


Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrates specialist expertise underpinned by theory acquired through CPD
  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues. Knowledge of evidence based practice.
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients/clients and give relevant advice/information to patients and relatives.
  • Ability to administer prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and blood products
  • An understanding of resource management
  • Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information.


Desirable

  • IT skills to facilitate documentation of patient records, access trust applications.


Professional/ Statutory Registration

Essential

  • RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
