Cardiac Physiologist, Band 5. 37.5 hours per week
We are seeking a BSc qualified (or equivalent) Cardiac Physiologist to support our busy Cardiology service based at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.. We are looking for somebody who already has some experience of working within Cardiology investigations. We welcome applications from newly or soon to be qualified physiologists.
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about working in cardiology and wants to develop their skills with us.
We are a multi-disciplinary team and the post involves rotation through all areas of the department including ECG, Ambulatory Monitoring, Exercise Testing, Pacemaker Implant, Pacing follow-up, Angiography and PCI.
We have a new Cardiac Angiography Suite which opened in February 2024 and working within this new facility will form a large part of your role.

Main duties of the job
The post holder is expected to have a good level of expertise in most of the following areas of cardiological investigations: -
- 12 lead ECG on inpatients, outpatients, adult and children. These should be performed within departmental protocols, highlighting any deviation from the normal approach. Refer for the attention of an appropriate health care professional in the correct time scale.
- Ambulatory Monitoring, BP monitoring and Pulmonary Function Testing, including application and analysis. Reporting of tests, returning to the referring doctor.
- Exercise Tolerance Tests. To be the be supervisor in Physiologist led testing..
- Haemodynamic Monitoring. Setting up of equipment, ensuring calibration of the system. Monitoring of the patient both before, during and after the procedure. This will include both diagnostic and interventional cases. Support from more experience members of staff is expected during emergency cases.
- Pacing. To make measurements at implant guiding the operator as to the suitability of the position of the pacing lead. Pacing follow-up to be undertaken under supervision.
- Interpret investigations, relaying information as required to other health workers, patients and their relatives.
- Take personal responsibility for putting the person receiving care first, and to challenge poor care/practise, doing so as soon as any shortcomings are seen.
