An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, proactive registered nurse to join the Epilepsy team in Swansea Bay.
The team based at Morriston Hospital are a regional service covering Swansea Bay Health Board area, the Lower western part of Cwm Taf Health Board , and also Powys Teaching Health Board and Hywel Dda Health Board.
The individual will work as an integral member of the Multidisciplinary team consisting of three Consultant Neurologists , two Epilepsy Nurse Specialists, an Epilepsy Co coordinator, medical secretaries to the Consultants.
The post will be appointed as a band 6 or 7 depending on experience. A band 6 appointee would gain a band 7 on completion of the epilepsy specialist induction module and competencies over an 18-24 month period.
With appropriate training the individual will use their specialist knowledge, skills, experience and understanding of epilepsy and its impact on the individual to determine what level of care is needed and direct resources accordingly.
The post holder will be expected to travel to cover clinics in any of the hospitals in Swansea Bay Health Board as they occur and may need to attend meetings in neighbouring Health Boards. Ongoing training to maintain the service and also keep up to date with clinical skills may require travelling outside Swansea Bay Health Board.

The individual will work as an autonomous practitioner, carrying out ongoing review appointments, both telephone and face to face including managing an open access service to meet patient's individual needs and NICE guidelines.
Clinical Practice
Practice autonomously demonstrating expert problem solving and clinical decision making skills in epilepsy care while demonstrating accountability and responsibility (NES)
Assess, manage, deliver and co-ordinate the plan of care for patients with Epilepsy from diagnosis, utilising the effective and efficient use of resources according to NICE guidelines
Responsibly for monitoring patients on disease modifying therapy treatments (DMT) for epilepsy.
Undertake investigations driven by protocol and within your competence. Interpret results and act accordingly.
Apply advanced skills, knowledge and behaviours relevant to epilepsy
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The individual will also be required to provide training and education to other professionals such as ward nurses, newly employed nurses to the Health Board, Physician Associates and medical students as required.
