Paediatric Pre Assessment Service has a band 7 Nurse Practitioner or alternatively a band 6/7 developing post opportunity to work within our Paediatric Pre Assessment Service to evaluate children's anaesthetic risk and optimizes complex pre-existing conditions to enable safe general anaesthesia for a variety of surgical and diagnostic procedures.

We have a rare and exciting opportunity for an exceptional individual to join our Paediatric Pre Assessment Service in a developing post. You will initially be employed as a Band 6 Nurse Practitioner who will work through a range of learning objectives/competencies within the first 12 months, you will then transition to the post of Band 7 Nurse Practitioner once this has been achieved.
Main duties of the job
Our Paediatric Pre Assessment Service evaluates anaesthetic risk and optimizes complex pre-existing conditions to enable safe general anaesthesia for a variety of surgical and diagnostic procedures. Working in close partnership with the consultant paediatric anaesthetists who underpin the service, the clinical expertise of the Nurse Practitioners is instrumental in assessing patients face to face, virtually or by telephone and then arranging investigations and liaising with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care pathways before and during admission. In addition, they collaborate with other AHP's to work with children, young people and their families or carers to alleviate anxieties and facilitate patient-centric perioperative plans, including reasonable adjustments.
Personal attributes include excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills, alignment to the Trust core values, and the credibility to work collaboratively with senior management, clinicians, staff, patients and key stakeholders to build excellent relationships and deliver outstanding care.
Candidates must be a NMC registered Children's Nurse. Candidates should also have evidence of achievement in current post and on-going professional development with recent experience in extended clinical practice. They should have a degree/Masters level study, or equivalent specialist study / experience.
Informal visits to meet the team and discuss the role are encouraged.

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust define a nursepractitioner as a qualified nurse where the primary purpose of role is to perform a specific technological procedure/s e.g. endoscopy, ultrasound in a defined patient group and/or advanced patient assessment and clinical decision making in a broad patient group.
To work towards the role of an independent nurse practitioner, contributing towards the delivery of a quality service matching clinical need to available resources within the focus of specialist nursing practice:o To ensure that the patient is the central focus of a streamlined patientjourney ensuring optimal quality of care.o Will provide a prompt response to calls from colleagues, prioritisingimportance and clinical need.o Supports the clinical team to manage a defined caseload, activity toinclude assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment within definedprotocols and training.o Provide immediate care management of patient including communicationof plan to patients and significant others.o Review and refer to appropriate person, e.g. AHP, resident medical staff,specialist registrar or critical care outreach team.o Liaises with Patient Services Coordinator.o Communicate within multidisciplinary team, ward/departmental staff and/or out of hours team.o Contributes to specialist education and training to ward departmental staff, nursing and medical students.
