Royal London Hospital site - Barts Health NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for a midwife with Specialist interest in Maternity Services to support the delivery of the diabetes services.
We aim to ensure that women are at the core of everything we do, and we wrap her care providers, and birth supporters around her as required rather than moving the women to achieve different acuity pathways. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, highly motivated and enthusiastic midwife to come and join our diabetes team.
You will have an enthusiasm for all aspects of midwifery care, antenatal care, fetal monitoring, intrapartum care and postnatal care. You will have the ability to work closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver training, support students, new midwives, doctors, audit and quality improvement.
To be the Midwifery lead on the development, coordination, and implementation of the Specialist Diabetic Service within the Maternity Directorate in conjunction with the Obstetric and diabetes Lead. Develop specialist programmers of evidence based care for women with diabetes and ensure that individual care is appropriately planned, implemented and evaluated.
To provide expert, clinical and professional specialist advice on the care of women who require pre-conceptual, those with diabetes or those that develop diabetes during pregnancy.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide effective leadership to the diabetes/pregnancy team and act as lead midwife on diabetes in maternity services.
The post holder will work collaboratively with the other diabetes team members contribute to the education and the professional development of staff in the acute and primary care setting.
He/she will be actively involved in client/family education, supporting midwives and GP's to provide on-going antenatal care and planning care for clients.
The post holder will be responsible for auditing, monitoring and evaluating the service provided

- Experience across the whole spectrum of pregnancy pathway including normal and complex needs, covering both hospital and community based care
- A minimum of three years as a midwife
- Specialist knowledge and experience of diabetes management in pregnancy
- Current knowledge of National guidelines, standards and recommendations impacting on maternity services including NICE Diabetes guideline 2015, Diabetes Strategy for Adults, Super 6 model

- Masters or evidence of significant post registration education
