An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Executive Director of Nursing Team as an Associate Directors of Nursing leading on Mental Health.

The post holder will provide lead professional nursing responsibility for a trust-wide strategic and operational leadership of mental health pathways across all sites. This will include designing and implementing initiatives / projects to enhance the quality of care, experience and safety for people attending the Trust with mental health needs in line with best practice, across both adult and children's services. This will involve working across boundaries and will include significant partnership working both internally and externally to the Trust and across the local health systems.

Main duties of the job

The post reports directly to the Deputy Director of Nursing to support the delivery of high-quality patient centred care through the operational and strategic development of nurses and nursing.

The post holder will continue to build on the success of the organisation, strengthening and enhancing pursuit of the Trust's strategy and vision and promoting the development of world-leading services. The successful candidate will be required to use their own professional judgment, gained from extensive professional, clinical and managerial knowledge and experience to interpret and address a wide variety of operational and strategic issues.

Personal attributes include excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alignment to the Trust core values, and the credibility to work collaboratively with senior management, clinicians, staff, patients and key stakeholders to build excellent relationships.

Job responsibilities

Applicants should be RN (Mental Health) and registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, with Masters Level Education. Advanced knowledge of professional issues, current NHS policy agenda, and clinical governance is required, as is the ability to work autonomously with minimum direction, evidenced by significant achievement and recent relevant experience at a senior level in a similar complex organisation.   • This post is a key corporate leadership role within the organisation, with responsibility for working closely with senior clinical leaders and managers to develop highly effective nursing and midwifery practice specifically in relation to designated portfolio to improve quality of care and outcomes for patients. As an AD the post holder will lead on and contribute to a broad range of trust wide projects, plans and policies that support nursing, midwifery and quality across the Trust. As part of the senior corporate nursing team s/he will lead the development and consistent delivery of high clinical standards of care, clinical policies and protocols for nursing and midwifery in line with evidence based practice and contribute to the identification of practice and professional development needs of nursing and midwifery staff. They will provide expert advice and support to senior leaders within the organisation in relation to issues of professional practice.
  • The post holder will work, with minimal guidance, to support the strategic objectives of their portfolio and the Trust. They will be required to use their own professional judgment, gained from extensive experience, and professional, clinical, and managerial knowledge to interpret and address a wide variety of operational and strategic issues.
  • This post is site focused and has core responsibilities in terms of that site base, in terms of professional issues, operational site management and Directorate support and involvement.
  • The post holder also has lead operational responsibility for specific Trust-wide areas of work and a portfolio of responsibilities as a senior manager
  • Will carry out research and development /project activity across all care settings in area of responsibility

Person Specification

Qualifications and Education

Essential

  • Registered Nurse ( mental health)
  • Current Registration with NMC
  • Masters Level Education or equivalent academic achievement


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of progressive career development
  • Extensive experience in relevant senior leadership role (matron or equivalent) role in acute or community setting in similarly complex organisation
  • Evidence of staff management, including managing recruitment, performance monitoring, appraisal, induction and mentoring
  • Evidence of achievement in current role
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of Professional Nursing Issues (at a local and national level), key government legislation, Clinical Governance, patient safety, quality and Service Improvement
  • Budget management
  • Evidence of leading change management processes


Desirable

  • Evidence of successful management of major projects.
  • Successful management complex organisational or service change.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of other clinical and non-clinical support services.
