The Clinical Decisions Unit at Glenfield Hospital is a 46 bedded, fully monitored unit, with a designated Triage and Assessment area. Unique to other Admission's Unit nationally, patients are admitted direct via ambulance, Urgent Care Centre, Emergency Department Referral and GP referral with a range of cardiac and respiratory conditions. CDU also takes admissions from within the Trust CDU is a demanding, but rewarding area to work in.
We also have a Same day emergency Care unit (SDEC) attached to CDU. This is GP/ACP lead area who will see ambulatory patients referred from the same routes as CDU. We are currently developing this new service and are looking for dynamic band 6s who would like to be actively involved.
We encourage applicants to flexible to work a rotation of long days and night shifts please.
Full time hours are preferable however part time hours may be considered however no less than 34.5hrs per week.

Main duties of the job
o Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of evidence based nursing care to a group of patients.o Leadership and supervision of others carrying out all aspects of the caring process.o Deputise and take charge of the given area regularly in the absence of the Sister / Charge Nurse who has 24hour accountability and responsibility.o Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care.o Participate in the effective clinical leadership and management of the ward team.o Actively contribute to the improvement of services and the quality of care provision to meet the needs of patients, service users and their families.o Act as a role model, mentoring, teaching, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement and participate in the education, development and mentorship of other staff.

Job responsibilities
Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of evidence based care to a group of patients according to changing healthcare needs and varying levels of complexity.
Responsible for the allocation of patients to nursing staff and the delegation of duties and care priorities to the multi disciplinary team in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility.
Provide advice, education, support and information to patients and their relatives / carers as required and involve patients, relatives / carers in the planning and delivery of care.
Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and relatives / carers.
Recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.

Facilitate effective communication and liaison with other disciplines as necessary to meet the needs of patients especially relating to ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements.
Ensure that fully accurate, complete and contemporaneous nursing records are written and maintained for each patient in accordance with agreed policy.
Actively participate in the development and implementation of new ways of working, implementing research based practice in order to promote ongoing care improvement.
