Department:Acute Medical Assessment Unit Maple Centre (WARD 1)

Band 6 �35,392- �42,618 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

We are looking for an experienced Sister/Charge Nurse or experienced Staff Nurse to join our dedicated and dynamic Ward 1 team which provides acute medical care and assessments.

We are looking for someone who can work collaboratively with a great nursing team and provide strong clinical leadership acting as a role model to a diverse nursing team. We have recently relocated to the Maple Centre, now referred to Maple Centre Ward 1 carrying out the same services that we use to provide with the exception of triaging patients.

We work closely with the Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) which is located downstairs, the Emergency Department and other outpatient departments within the TRUST. Are you an aspiring nurse leader who is ready to take on the next challenge?

Main duties of the job

The ability to demonstrate compassionate clinical leadership combined with excellent patient care and clinical knowledge is important for this role.

We will support you on your leadership journey and provide opportunities to professionally develop your skills and knowledge to be successful in this role.

o To provide effective, professional and managerial leadership to staff.

o To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care.

o To supervise and develop the knowledge and skills of junior staff.

o To initiate/ facilitate developments in nursing in partnership with the ward manager.

o To be the ward representative in the absence of the ward manager.

o To work autonomously within their scope of professional conduct and in line with Trust policies

o To assist the Senior Sister/ charge nurse in the review of nursing practice and service delivery.

o Provide clinical expertise.
  • To role model high standards of nursing care and professionalism.

Job responsibilities

Clinical

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care of patients, incorporating the standards and philosophy of the ward and evidence-based research.

Organise method of care delivery within the ward/department, allocating, prioritising and delegating effectively. This includes responding to capacity and patient dependency requirements.

Professional

To demonstrate a professional approach to leadership and management of staff.

To provide clinical support and advice to junior members of staff.

Management

To be responsible for the day to day running of the ward in the absence of the ward manager.

Promote effective communication within the nursing team, to patients, carers, visitors, members of the multi-disciplinary team and external agencies. Receiving and reporting sensitive information, as appropriate taking into account rules of confidentiality.

Service Management

To assist when necessary, with the definition of nursing standards and maintain the provision and effectiveness of those standards in line with clinical governance.

The post holder will ensure that they are aware of all issues relating to Clinical Governance, Quality Assurance and Clinical Effectiveness and that they carry out their duties in accordance with these frameworks and standards.

Education

To help to create and maintain an environment conducive to development and learning for all staff.

To assist in identifying the need for, and providing training/education in clinical nursing and managerial techniques to all grades of staff.
