Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust comprises of two sites, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and University Hospital Lewisham. We are now looking for an experienced, passionate and dynamic nurse to join our existing Children's Matrons. Currently we have a matron in place on each site.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated matron to oversee the inpatient clinical areas and nurse specialists on the University Hospital Lewisham site. Together the matron's cross site will be responsible for acting as a role model and professional support to nurses at all levels.
Although initially a 1-year pilot, this post would give an opening for the right candidate to develop their leadership skills and see if this role creates a career pathway for them.

Through strong clinical leadership the Matron will support the Division to promote excellence in paediatric care to maintain and improve clinical standards. The post holder will ensure that all children and their families are treated with compassion, dignity and respect placing value on the diversity of the local community and beyond. He/she will promote best practice in the prevention of infection through ensuring a clean and safe environment, and that clinical practices are in accordance with Trust policy and best practice guidelines to minimise the risk of infection.

Main duties of the job
The Matron will:
- Review skill mix and deployment of staff within the area of responsibility, working closely with other Nursing clinical leads and Head of Nursing within the division.
- Ensure rostering meets service demands and is cost effective and adheres to Trust guidelines.
- Review and agree bank requirements and usage and control bank and agency spend.
- Oversee recruitment processes and ensure they are adhered to in a timely manner.
- Performance manage staff with direct responsibility for the continuous performance review/appraisal of designated members of the team
- Support ward/departmental Nursing Clinical Leads in managing staff absence and report trends in sickness absence to Head of Nursing.
- Oversee the process of continuous performance review within the allocated area of responsibility.
- Empower and enable staff to perform their roles effectively.

- Robust evidence of relevant CPD in last 2 years

- At least 3 years' previous experience as Gynaecology Manager/Matron
- Experience in budget management
- Business planning experience
- Change management experience
- HR management experience
- Child Protection experience
- Track record of achieving change in clinical practice and organisation practice
- Experience in contributing at corporate level
- Experienced and competent in producing complex reports
Desirable
- Previous involvement in multi-agency working across the health economy
