We are seeking a Vascular Scientist to join our renowned unit based in two prestigious London teaching hospitals, The Royal London and St Bartholomew's. This is a full or part-time position offering a dynamic role for an accredited professional.As well as the newly added RRP, we provide flexible working options to balance the demands of the laboratory, while offering potential for increased hours.Opportunities for professional development including HSST are also available.

Our Vascular Laboratory provides a comprehensive range of ultrasound examinations. We perform carotid, peripheral arterial and venous assessments, TCD, fistula, renal artery, EVAR and GCA studies.

The successful candidate will deliver exceptional diagnostic care to our patients, contribute to vascular research and participate in teaching activities. Individuals nearing SVT accreditation will be considered on a lower pay band.

We are a team of six experienced vascular scientists, a trainee and full time administrative support. Close collaboration with consultant vascular surgeons, nurse specialists and other medical professionals is integral to our work. In addition to clinical duties, dedicated time is allocated for research and professional development.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical diagnostic vascular ultrasound expertise to the Vascular Ultrasound Service and thereby deliver a comprehensive Trust wide vascular diagnostic ultrasound service to referring medical and surgical consultants.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in related Science.
  • AVS accreditation.
  • SVT membership.


Desirable

  • MSc in Vascular Ultrasound.
  • Post graduate diploma in Vascular Ultrasound.


Experience

Essential

  • Scanning skills in clinical measurements, clinical trials.


Desirable

  • Experience as a vascular scientist.
  • Research publications.
  • Training and supervision of junior clinicians.
  • Management of administration staff.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge of vascular ultrasound diagnostic procedures.
  • Understanding of responsibilities under clinical governance.


Skills

Essential

  • Word processing, CRS/RIS/PACS knowledge. Spreadsheet and database entry knowledge.
  • Able to position patients and equipment.
  • Able to undertake scanning using highly precise probe manipulations for long periods.
  • Able to concentrate on scanning and reporting within a busy clinic with some interruptions.


Desirable

  • Able to train and supervise trainee vascular scientists and administrators.


Other

Essential

  • Able to communicate clinical findings to medical and technical colleagues.
  • Able to deliver research findings to scientific and clinical audiences.
