Elmwood Ward is a 17 bedded, Organic Dementia ward. We offer assessment & nursing care to vulnerable adults. We are known to manage complex challenging behaviours leading to a safe discharge. We place a strong emphasis on providing a compassionate, collaborative, & safe environment for everyone on our ward & we are currently looking for an enthusiastic & motivated Charge Nurse to join our multi-disciplinary team to support the qualified Nurses in providing effective mental health care in a safe & therapeutic environment.

As a Charge Nurse you will use your skills to work directly with service users by creating collaborative care plans & delivering these, contribute to Quality Improvement & service development, advocating for service users, engaging with their carers, & be an influential member of the ward team dedicated to multidisciplinary team working.

Elmwood Ward's MDT model includes Nurses, Health Care Support Workers, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Activity Co-ordinators, Carer's Liaison, Social Worker, Admission & Discharge Co-Ordinator, Medics & Pharmacy Technicians in order to give our patients the best possible care that we can.

We know how important a work life balance is & so are open to flexible working requests. There is an expectation to work unsocial hours and to meet the needs of the service, but we welcome and consider applications for part time working and condensed hours.

Main duties of the job

  • Take part in clinical and management supervision and attend all developmental training sessions.
  • Take charge of a ward from time to time as allocated.
  • Adhere to those stipulations as defined in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times.
  • Exercise leadership within the service by ensuring sound organisation, good communication and relationships within the nursing team under the guidance and supervision of the Ward Manager and Nurse Team Leader.
  • Inform the Ward Manager and/or Nurse Team Leaders of any specific clinical activity as appropriate.
  • Inform the Ward Manager and/or Nurse Team Leaders of any professional issues as necessary.
  • Report to, or assist/advise the Ward Manager and/or Nurse Team Leaders of any matters of complaint.

The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.

  • Sub part 1 of the NMC Register
