To deliver operational management, clinical leadership and supervision to designated teams of staff, making best use of resources at all times. Your responsibility is to ensure that all aspects of care provided to patients is of the highest quality, delivered in a manner that is respectful and sensitive to their needs and the needs of their carer. The job will also include a small amount of clinical work.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision and support to others within the team commensurate with their professional qualifications, experience and expertise as a psychological therapist. To provide expert advice to staff on how to manage risk and safeguarding cases.
  • Contributing to the professional development and clinical supervision of team members of a formal and regular basis to maintain and develop quality standards of practice in accordance with appropriate professional guidelines, Trust Policies and level of responsibility of the post. To co-ordinate the clinical supervision of staff in line with the requirements of the BACP and BABCP.
  • Leading by example, motivating and empowering others and promoting positive attitudes, mutual understanding and collaboration between all services involved in the care process
  • Ensure that the team work to required Health and Social Care standards in line with related Trust policies and that any failings are reported and corrected accordingly
  • Take part in regular programme of audit, keeping up to date with national audit and research regarding people with mental health needs specific to the post requirements
  • Communicate and promote the visions, values, objectives, behaviours and priorities of the Trust effectively to staff, partners and other internal and external stakeholders

This service works with GPs delivering psychological therapies to people with common mental health problems using the stepped care model.

Sandwell Healthy Minds NHS IAPT is a well-established and excellent service that continues to offer high quality; evidence based psychological interventions for our identified populations working closely with our local CCGS and with our Primary Care Networks. Previous knowledge and experience of working in IAPT Primary care service is advantageous and understanding of the specific issues faced by IAPT services nationally is vital. We are looking to recruit a resilient experienced IAPT Team Managers with good leadership skills, knowledge and experience of managing staff and resources. The post-holders need to demonstrate excellent communication and decision making skills to ensure the team is able to perform all duties as required whilst meeting all key performance indicators and service requirements within the resources available.

The post-holders will have energy, drive and ambition to provide managerial support and leadership to the Sandwell Healthy Minds Team located at Whiteheath medical centre.

Job description Job responsibilities

  • To ensure team activity supports efficient use of resources in line with an allocated budget by agreeing and managing all pay and non-pay budgets for specific areas of responsibility
  • Support annual workforce planning and modernisation processes within the Division as required
  • To contribute to the review of staffing resources and skill mix, ensuring that service provision is both safe and therapeutic
  • Monitor, record and manage staff attendance as detailed in Trust Policies and Procedures and to take appropriate action
  • To ensure structured appraisals are undertaken within the agreed timescale set out within Trust policy and procedure
  • Ensure that team members receive appropriate support, supervision and development in line with related Trust policies
  • To take part in investigations and disciplinary issues in line with Trust policies and procedures
  • Manage and co-ordinate the team within their day to day activity ensuring that plans and targets are fulfilled
  • Develop and sustain relationships with others that create a sound base for communication, services delivery and partnership working as required
  • Work with the Service Manager and others to recruit and retain staff within the team as required


Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or counselling level 5 qualification
  • Significant experience working as a therapist and demonstrating the competences as required
  • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development
  • Accreditation with BACP or BABCP
  • Experience of managing a team
Desirable
  • Management qualification or working towards: ILM/ HR courses
Experience Essential
  • Experience of managing a team with direct line management
  • Co-ordinating / managing team activity
  • Leading and supporting change & innovation
  • Experience of assessment and treatment of clients using evidence-based psychological therapy across a number of care settings.
  • Substantial experience of treating clients with CBT or counselling
Desirable
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
  • Experience of working within a multicultural framework.
Knowledge Essential
  • Statutory and legal frameworks within which mental health operates
  • Problem solving and negotiation techniques
  • Working knowledge of the key elements of Mental Health legislation
  • Clear understanding of managing a team budget within tight financial constraints
