We have an exciting 6-month fixed term opportunity in our Outpatient Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Service based at West Hertfordshire Therapy Unit, Jacketts Field site, in Abbots Langley.

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic Physiotherapist, who ideally has had previous UK experience in pelvic health physiotherapy at post graduate level.

However, depending on level of interest, we may consider applicants with transferrable clinical experience and skills and who are willing to work to a set of developmental clinical competencies throughout the 6 month fixed term period of the job role.

The successful candidate will work as part of a dynamic Outpatient Physiotherapy Team seeing a range of pelvic health presentations, gaining a wealth of experience, and further developing clinical assessment and treatment skills within this specialist area.

You will be supported by a Band 7 tier through a well-established probation, competency, supervision and appraisal process. We also offer in-service training opportunities. There are also good mentorship opportunities and peer support with our existing Band 6 staff body.

In addition, whilst very hard working, we are a sociable department committed to the health and wellbeing of our staff.

Main duties of the job

You will be working in a busy, friendly outpatient department seeing GP, Consultant and Enhanced Community Gynaecology Service referrals, undertaking assessment and treatment face to face, but also virtually as/when appropriate.

Typical caseload may include patients presenting with urinary incontinence, over active bladder, faecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, post natal perineal injuries, pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide physiotherapy care in the outpatient pelvic health physiotherapy setting.

To assess and treat patients with diverse pelvic floor dysfunction presentation and complex physical and psychological conditions, providing a diagnosis and developing and delivering individualised treatment programmes.

To communicate with relevant colleagues, MDT members, and patients, relatives and carers in order to facilitate a team approach to patient care.

To hold responsibility for own case load, working without direct supervision.

To be responsible for supervision, education and assessment of more junior physiotherapists.

To undertake evidence-based audit and to assist in the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.

To participate in virtual consultation model, when required.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications:

Essential

  • Physiotherapy degree qualification or equivalent.
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or equivalent recognised by Health Care Professionals Council.
  • Documented evidence of Continued Professional Development.


Knowledge:

Essential

  • Understanding of Physiotherapy structure in NHS.
  • Standards - Health Care Professions Council/Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.


Desirable

  • Interest in pelvic health physiotherapy.


Experience:

Essential

  • Clinical problem-solving ability.
  • Skill in physiotherapeutic techniques.
  • Highly developed physical skills, dexterity, coordination and sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients.
  • Ability to assess patient conditions establish a diagnosis and formulate a specialised treatment plan, from a range of modalities.


Desirable

  • Post registration experience as a physiotherapist in pelvic health physiotherapy (area of specialism).
  • UK NHS experience.
