Deputy Director of Clinical Research Development Program for Non Medical Healthcare Professionals & Senior Clinical Research Fellow

As a nurse or AHP senior research fellow within Alder Hey Children's NHS FT, the post holder (at 0.6 WTE) will work with the Professor of Nursing, the Clinical Research Division leads, the head of AHP, the Director of Research, the Director of Alder Hey Academy, and their associated teams to assist the professor in leading research for nursing and allied healthprofessionals (AHPs) and healthcare Scientists (HCS) across the Trust.The contract will be held by Alder Hey Children's NHS Trust (0.6 WTE) at 0.4WTE and will work as a senior research fellow in the FHSCM at Edge Hill University.

Main duties of the job

Specifically, the post holder will work with Professor of Nursing to provide senior leadership to:

• Be Deputy Program Director of Clinical Research development program.
• Work in collaboration with Professor of Nursing/Director to implement Trust wide Nursing and AHP research development implementation plan.
• Liaise with Alder Hey Academy and clinical librarian.
• Develop own research portfolio and secure research funding for this.
• Contribute to developing positive and strong research culture amongst NAHPs within AH.
• Provide support and guidance to staff to develop research skills and application of research in clinical practice.
• Provide expert knowledge, advice, support and leadership to staff undertaking nursing, AHP and/or patient related research within AH.
• Secure research funding to ensure continued growth of R& D within the Trust.
• Collaborate and develop close working partnerships with Edge Hill University to promote collaborative working.
• Contribute to Trust and University research education and training programmes.
• Co-organise annual research conference/showcase events.
• Provide research supervision for nurses/AHPs studying up to and including PhD level.
• Publish results in peer review journals to disseminate evidence and establish a high profile for NAHP research within the Trust.
• Encourage and support nurses and AHPs in getting work published.
• Establish systems that promote dissemination of findings from research/post-graduate studies for NAHPs in the Trust.

Person Specification

Education & Training

Essential

• Registered children's nurse qualification or Registered Allied health care professional.
• PhD in a related field.
• In depth and at expert level knowledge of clinical research and research governance.

Experience

Essential

• An emerging track record of personal development and achievement within research (grant acquisition and peer review publications).
• Leadership experience and demonstrate initiative and have effective communication skills with the ability to lead, motivate and develop multiple research teams, and to set and meet organisation research related objectives.
• Some evidence of leading practice development, education and training programmes.

Desirable

• Evidence of involvement in national nursing and AHP research groups/activity.
• Experience of being part of a PhD supervisory team.
• Editorial roles for a scientific journal.
• Membership of national funding panels.
• Experience of organising national and international scientific meetings.

Knowledge

Essential

• Knowledge of the NHS structure, research structures and management skills, current GCP certificate.
• Knowledge of current UK NHS, NIHR and ARC NW policy documents specifically those related to research and nursing and AHP research development.

Desirable

• Being chief investigator of a study beyond your PhD.

Skills

Essential

• Advanced IT skills are essential. The post holder will be required to widely use all Microsoft packages including PowerPoint, Excel, and statistical packages i.e. SPSS in the production of various reports, business plans and undertake analysis of complex data sets.
• Excellent communication skills to develop mutually beneficial partnerships to work across HEIs and other NHS Trusts and to be willing to share skills and knowledge with other colleagues.
